FAL Files down...

Too bad they are off line right now there were a couple of threads I was following.

Anyone know what's going on with that site these days?

Does Jen in Houston still run it?

Jen is the owner and head administrator.

I do a lot of the heavy lifting with regard to killing spam bots, approving new members, refereeing fights in the play pen, and cleaning up when somebody poops on the sliding board.

I'm not a computer tekkie though.
I have no idea what is up with the database.
Seems to crash quite a bit.

I've never seen a site down so many times in a short period of time as FalFiles.

It's kinda like when my wife forgets to pay the cell phone bill.....soon as the payment gets made....I'm able to call and text again.....

The FalFiles is one of my favorite sites, but there has been some strange drama surrounding Jen's administrative ablity.

Yep...here we go again.....I guess the FalFiles could be nearing an end(I hope I'm wrong) . What a tragedy that would be all those good people over there and all the great data.

The Database Crashed and I am attempting to repair the User account tables which were seriously damaged. The Forums are temporarily offline while we perform database maintenance and backups. This should take about however long it damn well takes - deal with it.

Just FYI, I just re-configured the registration requirements there.

I had to ban gmail entirely as a registration email address.

You can no longer register on the FAL Files with a gmail address.

We were getting hammered with spam-bot registrations using gmail email addresses.

Anything but gmail can still register.

If you originally registered using gmail, this change should have no effect on you.
The intent is for it to ONLY affect NEW registrations.

WEG is a good guy but he's taken on a FUBAR situation as long as JEN is a part of picture.

I think this latest plug in the leaking dike is a short term solution to an on going long term problem.

Anyways, good job WEG on getting the Files back up......for now.

I'm not sure my banning gmail registrations has anything to do with the database issue.

But I'll do what I can with what I've got to work with –– which aint much when it comes to internet database management skill.

I have no background in computers, and I don't get paid one red cent for the work I do at the FAL Files.

I haven't been back to the Files now for a few months. The place became less about relaxation and discussion, more about aggravation and frustration. I don't bother beating my head against the wall nearly so much these days. Such is life.

I do remember fondly the heyday building times, though, when I was a wee noob in my mid 20's. A $99 kit, a $199 PAC receiver, and $100 in US parts, and you could twist together a battle rifle in your own garage.

Oh well. On to the next stage in life. My FAL phase is fading behind me...That Win 70 .338 WinMag shoots nice, by the way, Jeter. A real thumper. I'm even circling back to ARs (thus, my post on the dreaded ARF). I'm planning an A2, maybe an A4, on a Doublestar lower I picked up a while ago.

YUP sure do, 127K I think and hopefully LOTS more.. Had to do a little repair myself last winter, the O-Rings in the Fuel drain valve up by the fuel filter went bad and she was leaking quite a bit.. Not a terrible job but a lot easier if I was a little dude and could get up inside there better..

Looks like I'm real glad I got the 7.3, still hearing complaints about the 6..

Looks like the FILES are DOWN AGAIN!!

I don't get it??
