What's the difference inbetween the FA FAL's and the Semi-auto FAL's? Is it all in the upper receiver? This is just purely a curiosity question.

Ejector block is different and of course the auto sear. That's all I know of but there maybe other differences.

Ok...I ask because when I built my 1919 I had to send all the guts out to be converted to semi auto...no need for that here right?

No.

I replaced my HTS with US built parts but the originals look the same to me.

OK So I found out I need to switch the selector switch. I guess that is what I was looking for

No need for that. With a semi auto only upper receiver, you can use any part that will fit. The only part that will not fit in a semi only upper is the safety sear.

DSA's web page where they list their semi auto selector says "Required but does not count as US part".

That is marketing spin. The selector is "required" if you want your rifle to function properly. It is not required in order to comply with some silly law or to keep from violating some other silly law.

Yup - DSA is fulla crap on that one - their selector isn't "required" by anyone - it merely stops the selector from being able to reach the FA position - which won't hurt your rifle, but WILL temporarily turn it into a single shot rifle... To me, a better alternative is to install one of Wolfsburg Bob's pistol grips, which also stops the selector at the semi only position, counts as a US part, and only costs about $10 + shipping...
