I know I want the Tactical Carbine with 16 inch barrel and rail foregrip.

DSA FAL Carbine

What I dont know is what options to get.
Do I get it with or with out carry handle cut?
Do I get it with short or long gas system?
What type of receiver, type 1, 2 or 3?
Should I get it in black stainless steel or dura coat?

Finally, are DSAs barrels chrome lined?

Thanks
GF

Well, if it was me...
for a 16" tactical, without the cut, short gas, type 1, black stainless. Majority of DSA barrels offered are not chrome lined (I think). Seriously though, how can you go wrong? I'm sure it will be a nice frickin rifle no matter what. Have fun with it.

Do they make para stocks that can be reversibly pinned in the open postion?
Do they make a thumbhole stock?

1 - Without carry handle cut.

2 - Short length.

3 - Type 1

4 - Dura coat

Additional recommendations

1 - Rail Interface Handguard with vertical grip.

2 - Heavy Duty Extended Scope Mount

3 - Aimpoint ML2 sight

4 - SAW Pistol grip

Should I get a stainless barrel since it will last longer?
Why dura coat and not black stainless steel?
Why a short gas/piston? Wouldn't this be harder to find parts for? Isn't a longer sight radius better?

I guess type 1 receivers are strongest so I'll go with that.
I'm going to get the Rail Interface Handguard & Heavy Duty Extended Scope Mount.
Already have an ML2 and NV Mono on a GGG quick release mount.

Since this is going to be my ultimate SHTF/BO rifle this is what I'm thinking:
DSA FAL Blackened stainless upper/lower/threaded barrel.
So far this is what I looking at.
Stainless DSA

I'm still questioning a short vs long foregrip/gas system, and para set up.
Unfortunately, I live in a ban state so I have to get the thumbhole stock. Unless, I figure out a way to make a fixed para stock into a thumbhole stock - maybe if I attach a bar from the para stock to the pistol grip. Nah, I think I'll just go with a regular thumbhole stock for now.

Standard barrel will hold up just fine.

I like the uniform look of Duracoat.

Short gas system looks much nicer in the carbine than the full length, just as reliable and DSA will have parts. Long sight radius is good, but this is a carbine for close work and with the Aimpoint you have an awsome setup.

You say that your in a ban state, so no flash hiders, I would think twice about a muzzle brake, it will be very noisy and blast will hit your face, just stay with a bare muzzle.

Thumbhole stock???? What state are you in?

I would rather have a thumbhole stock and threaded barrel in the post ban configuration
Its easier to change the stock then thread the barrel

Get the folder,Pin it open.....The Thumbhole stocks bring back bad memories.
You'll Thank us later, when you sneak off & open/close the para's stock.
Hell...A DSA para lower is on my must have for 06.

OK maybe I'll go with this one

I'll just have to pin the stock open and put a thread protector/bird cage like break on it.

I have never had any muzzle blast hit my face from my brake. It IS loud, but reduces muzzle climb dramatically. I don't think I would get rid of mine. Plus, any 16" .308 is gonna be a loud sucker.....

I recently ordered a dsa fal.

I went with the stock black color and whatever coating that was.

If the duracoat is the option that I am thinking it was the lady at dsa said I would be looking at an extra 4 weeks to get my rifle.

As it is I am looking at a month or two to get my rifle.

So depending on your timeframe you may want to consider that.  I could not decide what I wanted with duracoat so I went simple and stock and will deal with it later.
