Just purchased my first FAL; a nice SA58.  I would like to have a complete, spare bolt and carrier assembly that I can drop in as needed.  I have one on order.  My question involves head spacing.  Can I safely use the spare bolt as a drop-in, assuming that the new assembly will not close on my Forster NO-GO gauge (1.634") with normal two thumb pressure?  Thanks.

Yes, assuming that it closes on a go gauge.

When checking th headspace with the "new" bolt and carrier, make sure that the chamber and bolt face a clean and that the extractor is removed. You can check the head space with the extractor in place, but it is a pain in the butt.

Thanks, guys.  Curt, I figured the GO was a given.  Thank you for pointing it out.  You never know how "new" somebody is.

MD, yeah, I have done it with the extractor in place on M1A's, AR's and others, but it is a pain.  The extractor will be removed for this exercise.
