Just came home tonight. Springfield sa-48 Match, like new. The receiver is made in Brazil, but it appears all the parts are stamped FN. Will try to post a pic later.

Congrats.  I got to shoot a FAL for the first time this past weekend and really liked it.  I'll probably end up getting one here over the summer if I don't buy a new truck.  Tagged for pics later.

So, have you slid over to the FAL Files?
www.falfiles.com/forums/index.php

Enjoy! The SA-48 are VERY nice, high quality, and SA did a nice job assembling them.

I think that is an IMBEL mount. Look for markings and share, as I have always associated those w/ the IMBELs, not the FNs.

OK, just got back from the range. This baby can shoot!
I shot 4 groups of 5 at 50 yrds.(I can't shoot this well at 100) with Remington 150 gr. and some old Norenco 147 gr. All groups were in the 3/4" to 1" range. Shooting our 1/2 size IPSC targets(steel) at 100 yrd's was a pice of cake.
Poet, as far as the scope mount,I'me going by what I was told. This is a steel top cover with what appers to be machended aluminum base. It has 3 heavy rivetes on the top and both sides. The 30 mm rings are held on with a 1/4"? cap screw. It has a black poly type finish? No other markings. It is also see-threw, you can use the irons fine with the cover on.

Nice score, excellent weapons equal to any DSA or FN FAL.... my personal favorite
FYI.....
The SAR 4800 is a 1989 post ban originally equiped with a thumbhole stock and pinned muzzle protector. Manufactured under FN license by Imbel of Brazil which SA Inc. imported as complete weapons and then reconfigured to pass Customs.
SA Inc. did assemble new Israeli HB parts kits on Imbel recievers that were re-tooled by SA Inc. to accept the Hebrew metric pattern parts.
SAR 48's made it into the USA before the '89 "Bush Ban" became in effect and do not fall under 922r compliancey laws.
Unfortunately the SAR 4800 model does fall under 922r laws that require no more than 10 foregin manufacture parts to be legal thus requiring 7 USA manufactured parts to be legally transformed to your current configuration.
If legallity is of concern you may want to check your parts count. Typically the common US parts used to reconfigure are the buttstock, grip, forearm, hammer, trigger sear and the gas piston which allows the use of all foregin made mags.....  which count as 3 foregin parts..... and are pretty much all that are available besides the rare Thermolds.
All metric parts will interchange with this weapon and some of the inch parts will also.
Between 1992 and 1995 SA Inc. also imported  1,000 Imbel manufactured SAR 4800 FAL's in 5.56x45 that use M16/AR15 mags and drums....
