Do you guys think a 30 RND FAL magazine is to much. Would the weight and length be a bigger problems than the advantages.

I got a couple from Tapco for $25- a while back. they are a fun conversation piece, but do add weight and are overly long for the prone (make a great monopod). Additionally, my PARA doesn't feed well from them, I suspect that the recoil spring doesn't have the oomph to strip the first couple of rounds. It does work if I shortload to 26 rounds. They feed fine with a fixed stock attached (and the attendant longer recoil springs).

The main complaint I have heard is the weight...

I've shot in a few tactical rifle matches and they did fine. The courses of fire are often setup for 30 rd magazines so I'd be at a severe disadvantage without them. They also make great monopods for the long shots.

For combat you would probably carry no more rounds than if you had steel 20's because of the weight. Only aluminum mags would make a difference.

I have used the HK 91 30 round magazines and find they are heavy - you take a box and a half of ammo plus increased weight of mag and put it below the center of gravity of your rifle. I have gone to using a 10 rounder mag for my walk around carry mag and carry the 20's in pouches for FAL. 91 and BAR10.

I like the 30 rounders for the "badass" factor.

Show someone an AR or AK with a 30 rounder in it and it looks cool...

Show someone a FAL with a 30 rounder in it and they usually go WOAAA!!... and their eyes get really big!

I agree, the 30 round mags are "overly long" for shooting in the prone position.

Youd need a power assit suit to hold the damn thing.

I've seen converted MG13 drum mags, they hold 75 rounds IIRC. Birdman had one.

magazines make poor monopods, it may cause feeding problems

Now that I cleaned up the drool from looking at the last pic, where is a good source for 30 rounders?
