Which do you prefer?

Both my FALs have plain barrel crowns - no muzzle device. They are still loud, but not as loud as those with brakes I guess.

Do the brakes lessen recoil any?

I prefer a brake.  I have two FALs.  I  have a muzzle break on my SA58 and the other have a replica Browning FH.  The muzzle break make a big difference between the two.  My SA58 has less recoil and is not as loud as the other.

Are your barrels threaded? I am getting the feeling they are not. I am moving to flash suppresors come tonight at midnight!!!!!

Today they have flash hiders.
