I bought a few cases of South African PMP a few years back when I got my DSA/Stg-58 from Century Gun Works - I went shooting last night and noticed I'm down to 6 boxes!

I'm not going to make it past this weekend without blowing through most of that so that means I'll be looking for some more 7.62x51 real soon.

Who's got the best deal going on decent surplus ammo (or is there any decent surplus out there in the first place)?

Australian 308 (7.62x51), 144 gr FMJ.  This is what I ues all the time.  I usually wait for a gunshow to buy it.  You can get 800 Rds for $130.

Here are a couple of links to the distributors of the dealer from the gunshows:

Depending where in WI you are you can drive to Sportsmans Guide in St Paul and pick it up there.
I bought a case about a month ago, 134.99 for 800rnds +MN 6.5% tax

Aussie works great in my FAL.

Aim Surplus pretty much always has Port for sale for $149/1000.  Keep an eye on them as sometimes they offer free shiping as well

I purchase it from a friend/dealer, but I have been using the cheap Indian-NATO stuff for range blasting.  I use it for shooting metal plates out at 100 yards and past.  It does not group "good" on paper out there, but it will hit plates.  I have to cull them. About one in a hundred will have a bent nose.  Nasty, dirty, somewhat accurate, but very cheap.

Indian .308 sucks!  I will not use it in my rifle again.  I have heard and seen too many bad things.  I love the Aussie .308.  I think it is very accurate.

Shi Huang Di, you should give the Aussie a try.  You will not regret it.

Agreed.  I pretty much shoot nothing but Port or Aussie.

Thanks, I will pick up some Australian next week and try it!  My buddy has a few battle packs, but has not broke into them yet.

The Spanish is excellent also, but hard to find.  Portuguese is shot well, but I have only put a couple of boxes in it.  I shoot the Indian because for plate shooting, bump firing and just blasting it does the job.  Your right I should not recommend it, and probably don’t, for range shooting especially paper targets or a match rifle.

BUT, I hear all this bad stuff about it.  I have shot 3-660 rd. cans in my FAL and G3, my brother has shot 2-660 rd. cans (G3).  My two close friends have shot 3 can a piece in G3s and FALs.  Now we did inspect them before loading into mags.  All of our weapons are kept very clean and not abused in any way except dirty ammo!  It will take a problem in one of these old battle rifles to change my mind.  Threats of blown receivers and damage just have not deterred me yet.  I do use better ammo for real range shooting.

My SA-58 loves the Aussie stuff , it runs perfect at the 7 setting on the gas port .
I pay $140 a case (800 Rounds) at a local shop , but I've seen it on every major mail order site for similar prices  . I'm a little short of storage space at the moment , but I plan on picking up as many as I can before it dries up .

I fnally had a chance to take my DSA STG58a out, ran about 100 rounds of the Austrailan   through it, was flawless. The store where I get my FFL transfers done has some milsurp .308 that is boxerprimed, he never charges me a transfer fee so I always buy at least $25-30 in ammo whenever I pick up a gun, this ammo was also excellent amd at $4.00 per box I'll pick up 100 rounds or so of it and save it for reloading later. I think it has a T N something stamp.

What makes the INDIAN .308 bad? I picked up 650rnds for $60.00 is it dangerous or does it just not shoot well?
