Spot rusted mags work. No pitting, just surface rust. It's a good price.

I purchased one of these 30rd magazines, but it turns out to be too unreliable to bother with. Can I exchange this for equal value in 20's or something?

EDITED: Just spoke with customer service, and they agreed to give me store credit for other stuff. THAT is why I recommend doing business with Tapco any chance I get.

Call DSA.  I just ordered one from them.  It says used but it looks brand new.  Seriously, it looks that good.  Not one scratch or ding or anything.  The color is all a deep black/grey kinda like its freshly parkarized.  Its marked
Magazine 7.62 L4A1.  I know its a Bren mag modified to fit the metric FAL.  DSA must have refinished it.  It cost me $45 but I feel it was worth it to have one.  I have over a dozen Styer 20 rounder all purchased from DSA for $5.00 each and they all came with new magazine springs.  The 30 rounder looks awsome in my STG58 carbine.  If you still want one try DSA they really do sell the best FAL parts and accessories.  Yes you pay more but you get more IMHO.

I dont blame powerstrokedit I wouldnt buy from Tapco either.  Not because they are a bad company or anything like that.  Im sure they are a fine company and many people order from them and are very happy with what they get.  I dont order from them because they dont have anything I want.

DSA has the used curved Bren mags for $35 each. They are easy to convert to metric and have a better floorplate retaining system. The curved mags have less feeding issues than the straight mags due to the curve of the mag taking up the taper in the 308 cases much better than the straight.

My curved DSA mag is great and virtually new. I also lucked out on a internet sale price (20 something a few weeks ago) at Tapco for their spotty 30rnds and it only needed a wee bit of oil/fine steel wool rub to be happy.

I just got a couple of Tapco's rusty 30's the rust is minimal but the mags have quite a bit of front to back play in them(at the mag bottom) when installed.I haven't been out to blast and see if the play is a feeding issue.I know it(><play) cause feeding problems in other weapons I own.I am going to pull out the 'micrometer' tonite and compare the 30's to a nice tight mag and see where the problem lies.

One of the mags looks slightly bowed in the sides and I will straighten and check fit again.

Overall I think the rusty mags will turn out to be more than a refinishing job.
I have some DSA 30's coming,I will see how those fit.

I got several from Tapco and they all functioned fine. Some dings and spot rust.
These are surplus mags. No biggie.

Since I had the mags apart I replaced the spring, cleaned up the dirt and rust and tried them out.
All functioned fine even tho there is still quite a bit of 'play' in the mags when inserted.
I will have to 'build up the catch to tighten any further.

In the mean time I recieved the DSA used thirty(converted Bren mags)rounders and they were super clean with a new heavy finish ready to load and use and store right out of the box.Insert mag, pull up,click, nice and TIGHT.It fits like a mag should.

The 15$ more I spent on the DSA mag was worth it.If I were setting up an assembly line and refinishing a load of the surplus mags it might be fun,but the hours spent working on refinishing and rehabbing mags can be better spent shooting or working on weapons.IMO

My vote:DSA
