If you look around the WESCOG-FAL world, it seems the Feds are hammering the available kit market hard, future availability is chancy. has any one build one from readily available parts: barrel from here, lower assembly from here, gas system from there, etc.  My question is would parts work together, keeping in mind the metric/inch issues?  Lots of folks have put together AR's just like this, could it be done with FAL's? I know that there are now alot of American made parts out there, so that kills the import regs, just cherry pick the best of the imported stuff and finish it off with USA parts.  But it is not an AR sooo...  Your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

A few people on the FAL Files have, with no ill effects.  Some of them could represent the UN, since they have parts from so many different countries assembled on one rifle.  There was a thread on it a while back.  I'll see if I can locate it.

Its actually pretty easy.  I'm building a lightweight now but I am robbing a kit for some of the parts.  It certainly can be done.  Right now, you can buy a complete forend from an STG from DSA for $100.  Then, buy a complete G1 or Imbel lower from whatever souce you want.  Then, get a bolt and carrier from Tapco for $40 and all you need is the BHO, mag release, charging handle and top cover.

One piece at a time...
