Wave, As I recall you already have an M1 correct? The M1A gets lubed in much the same way. As far as the Scout goes, if you use an optical sight, your cheek weld will be raised about 2 inches. It may give you an unsteady feeling. If you want a consistent cheek weld that will give you fast target acquisition then you are going to need to raise the comb somehow. I can't help with the sling question. I either go without a sling or use the G.I. nylon sling. Great choice in a firearm, enjoy.
Someone needs to make an M-14 stock with accessory rails. A tac light or laser would be fun on a Scout. Edited to add; Go to www.coledistributing.com for the mags. |

Those buffers work great in my AK-74, guess it couldn't hurt to slap one of those in my M1A too right?

i use a buffer in my M1A, but since i shoot HP matches. i have to replace the buffer every 2000rnds or so as the buffer gets hard and cracks.. but.. i usually run through 4000rnds a year between matrches and practice... so i guess i DO get my $$ worth from these buffers.. they REALLY help in the 600yd stage as we run hot loads through our rifles to keep the bullets supersonic

I'm partial to the GI nylon sling, myself. I sold my standard (idiot), but will be getting a bush rifle after the new year. For a cheekpiece, try Brownells; hell, they have everything else.
