I would like to request some more information about the Springfield's M1A Scout.

My understanding is that they sell for about $1200, have a 18” barrel, and a barrel clamp mount rail for mounting scopes.  

This will be my fourth M1A rifle.  I built a Standard M1a on a Polytech receiver and it is currently my favorite rifle due to weight, handling, and knock down power.  110 grain Hornady VMAX 0.308 rounds are a killer on coyotes/wild dogs and 165-grain Nosler ballistic tips rounds are also extremely effective for deer hunting.

So what are your experiences with the Springfield's M1A scout?

Also what are your opinions about purchasing another Polytech receiver and building a M1A scout like weapon?

I bought one a couple of months ago with the camo synthetic stock. Payed a bit more than 1200.00, but I am happy with the rifle. I have not shot it alot, but with port. surplus it is not quite as accurate as my AR-10C. Hope to do some more shooting when it cools off a bit. Scope selection is really tough with the scout mount, not many choices other than the red dot type scopes. John.

So the Soldier of Fortune article about better barrel harmonics is bull?  What kind of accurate did you get out of the scout m1a?  From the Soldier of Fortune article, I was assuming better than 2.5 MOA.

What problems are you having installing a standard scope? Springfield states this is the reason for the barrel clamp.

You need a lot of eye relief. Leupold makes a few scopes for this and a pistol scope will also work. I am still waiting to find the best optics for it.

Got mine about a month ago:
Standard scout (black synthetic) paid a little under $1300.
I put a 1.25 black Supersling and have an Aimpoint Comp M coming.
I bought my mags from Cole Distributing, paid $39.00 each for new in wrap USGI 20 rd.
Ammo so far has been South African surplus and reliability is 100%.
What I was most impressed with is that I shot a friends full size M1A standard a few days before I bought my scout and his has so much more recoil! I don't know why, I'm assuming that Springfield just 'did it right' with the muzzle brake, but my scout recoils so nicely, you can't believe youre throwing .308. My previous FAL was never even close.
Anyway, you can't go wrong with this setup, it's almost the perfect rifle, if that dare be said.  

I think there will be alot of new stuff to come out for the M1A,Law Enforcement is getting really attached to the M1A.

What is this refrence to the SOF and barrel issues???
I got a new one a month ago, black stock, Aimpoint Comp, Aimpoint mount, and I am just smitten. I cant put into words how much I like this rifle. Yeah it may not be a long ranger in my hands but I dont plan on shooting any HiPower matches with it. I have a bunch of SA from Dans $194 for 1260 rnd tubs. I also got a few more mags from Coles and could use about another half dozen for now.
I forgot to add I paid about $1300 for the rifle and the Aimpoint and mount are from SWFA, use the Picatinny style and I like the "low" or standard one vs the "high" mount. I bought both so if you want the high mount for $15 including shipping drop me a line.
With the Aimpoint on it the rifle feels like it weighs about as much as a Hbar AR. I really like the way it comes up to the shoulder and handles. I suppose the brake works well too because the recoil seems almost un-noticeable when Im shooting it. Sorry if I seem like I am gushing on but Im pretty sure this is the rifle I would pick up in a pinch and leave the AR in the safe.

Damn, Tnek, here I was trying to stay professional and leave my emotions out of it, and there you go, gushing on. Ok, now that youve' brought it up, I love this rifle. Now, you've gone and made me say it.

I have to sadly report that I am having major problems with my trigger. As in the hammer wont drop about half the time. I believe the bolt is fwd and the cam is clear of the nose on the hammer but I am not sure yet. Springfield blew me off Firday mng saying that all of the techs were gone and call back Monday. I took it out and completely disassembled the trigger group, cleaned and lubed but the problem persists. Im not happy but I know that the problem can be resolved if Springfield will help.

The scout rifle is good to go.  I had one but regret selling it.  It is handy and easy to shoot.  The only real problem is that the sight base heats up so you have to watch your hand placement.  It is a good rifle, you won't regret it.
