Thats about what I paid for mine in 07.  It's a standard M1A with the fiberglass stock....

I found my 1989 vintage M1A at a gunshow for $1200 a couple of years ago. They can be found if you look.

Why not a Norinco or Polytech? Should be able to find one that has some GI mods for less than that.

Absolutely. I have purchased at least six from the EE. I don't know if you can still buy one for $795 but one with a GI Stock and bolt should be in the $1000-$1200 range.

Both have forged receivers and chrome lined barrel stock.

Watch the EE every day.

The last Chinese Polytech that I got already had the bolt conversion and a USGI birch stock, and it was picked up for $900.  But, that was about 3 years ago.

Poly or Norinco are going to be the best value. In your price range, even with a bolt conversion done.

For what it's worth, I scored my bone-stock Polytech at a local gun show for $600 a couple months ago. It has some wear on it, but it functions flawlessly.

I picked up a like new Polytech about six months ago.  $850, I thought it was a pretty good deal.  Its the first used Poly I had seen in years.  There was a used Norinco at the same show for $1000.  New Springers are usually north of $1500 around here, frequently more.  And used ones are almost unknown.

Or move to Canada.  Marstar sells the Chinese guns for $499 I believe.
