Very nice! |

|
The bottom two rifles have Lock-bar rear sights (the bar on the right side, windage knob). These where only made during WW2 and are pretty pricing depending on whether they are type 1,2 or 3. I just paid $130 for a set of type 2's.
The top Garand appears to have a National Match rear sight. There may be more NM parts in there somewhere... |

Slant cut oprod on the tanker too, although it has been shortened.
What are the markings on the heel of the M14? And I just noticed the middle Garand in the top pic has a no-trap buttplate. That is a VERY early part; what's the SN range on that rifle? |
|
Way to go!
It is obvious that Grand Pa and Grand Ma both loved you very much actions speak louder then words! This is as good a time as any to warn you about an M-1 thumb. It is probably one of the most painful learning experiences one can have with a firearm. If your not familiar with an M-1, best get someone or watch a video on youtube to show you how to safely handle this fine weapon, Again, a great treasure trove of historical weapons. |

wow, a pretty early M1A, a couple WW2 receiver Garands, and a 50's? built garand.
you have NO idea how lucky you are. well, just in value, about 3 grand, but the fact that those were your grandpas ROCKS! my G'Pa was wounded REAL bad in WW2 and never got to bring anything home... edit- if your Garand is a 7 million serial number..... that might be a big deal.... didnt they record the last M1's built to be in the high 6 million range ? |
|
Your Grandpa was an honorable man, you should be proud. Condolences on your loss.
Congrats on the rifles. |
|
I didn't know we could own M14, sweet. Now i have to find one .
Congrats, you lucky man. |

The modern SA in IL started sn# range was 7,000,000, so it looks like that one is a modern M1 by SA Inc. |

Wow, instant collection! Nice rifles, too! Yeah, and it works out, because I was looking at getting an M1 and a an M1a not too long ago, this just saved me a bunch of money and made me happy at the same time |

So, does one of the M1's have a solid buttplate without the door in it? If so, any numbers on the buttplate? Might have to take it off to find out.
The 7 million is a SA, Inc. cast receiver. Not collectible at all but it was your grandpa's so it has worth to you. The tanker, if a Winchester, is a WIN-13 which is very collectible. What are the barrel dates? The two normal M1's should have a barrel date under the oprod. Pull it back and you should see it on the right side. The Tanker may or may not have a barrel date, probably won't. What is the drawing number on the oprods? Take the stocks off and it will be on the flat part. Also, are there small radiused cuts on the oprod by the drawing number? Any cartouches on the left side of the stock? (SA over EMcF, GHS, GAW, NFR, SHM, JLG or WRA over GHD or EB) |
|
The M1A and the top Garand (with the rusty buttplate -tsk tsk) appear to have 1/2moa rear apertures (aka - NM apertures)
Do the rear windage knobs have any markings to show they're NM? Should be just NM if they're 1moa windage knobs, or NM/2A if 1/2moa windage knob & base. What is the barrel marking on the M1A and top Garand? Did you check if any of the Garands were 308/7.62 instead of 30-06? |
|
Gramps is smiling. Make sure you give them to your kids and grndkids. (as long as they promise not to turn you in to the authorities)
Now go to CMP and buy a couple cases of ammo. ASAP. |
|
Very nice! That M1A probably has a bunch of USGI parts with that early serial number. Nice Garands too. I'm very envious of the tanker Winchester.....
|
|
AND obigatory feet pic!
I am WAY MORE than a "little" jealous! |
|
Nice score, I always like to see guns stay in the family.....

Garands and M1a's are great..............even more so when handed down from a hero. Always cherish them as you did your Grandpa and remember the history with Grandpa and the other solidiers that took them into battle.
Now go take your Grandma out to dinner. vmax84 And thanks for your service, like I can tell a Marine about "dedication" and "service". U.S.A.F. 1983-1987 |

U.S.A.F. 1983-1987 I took Gma out to dinner at a fancy restaraunt here in town last night, just me and her and she loved it. TRG No, lots of rumours when it will be available. Apparently the CMP just got in a bunch of rifles and ammo in from Greece. Some of the rifles were supposedly shown at the recent shoot. The rifles appear to be in service grade and better, all later serial numbers no WWII's. I have 2 M1 Garand's and 2 1903's and just a couple box's of ammo (about 20 rounds), so I am anxious also. |
