M1A Trigger - AR15.COM

I've been looking around and it seems the only trigger upgrade for an M1A is to swap out a NM trigger. Is this true? I don't like the trigger pull on my rifle and would love to (1) lighten it up and (2) make it smoother.

It's a TRW group so it's nice, the pull just isn't that great. Any ideas?

I'm sure H2OMan will by by soon with more info for ya but Smith Ent. has a trigger upgrade package that they sell. I believe they don't actually replace any parts but work on your existing trigger group so you would have to send yours off but they know what they are doing so it would be worth it IMHO.

SEI now offers two M14/M21A5 C-IED 4.5 lb Trigger Upgrades.
Mid-range ... 2024
MAX-PAK ... 2087

EDIT:

I had a NM trigger job from custom shop @ Springfield Armory Inc. and it was nice.
I then tried a WarBird NM trigger job and it was better...
The SEI upgrade is superior to both.

It says 4.5# pull. What is the stock pull?

Is it a bad idea to polish M1A trigger surfaces?

I think they're typically 6+ lbs

Yes, it's a bad idea. You should be able to find an M14 guy that does a so-called "NM" trigger job (4.5lbs, crisp break) for around $30. I send mine down to Tom Luhmann in Clovis, CA. Assuming he's home, he'll have it back in your hands in 2-3 days. 559-299-7112.

It depends on how busy SEI is with military contract work.
Call them and speak to Ron - he may have an all TRW group
set up the way you want it that he will swap out plus the fee.

No.

You send in your TG and they either exchange it for one off the shelf or upgrade your TG and return it to you.

Dry fire it about a couple hundred times. Then go put a couple hundred rounds through it. It may loosen up. Although a NM trigger group wouldn't be a terrible thing either.

The quickest trigger job I ever did on an M1 or M1A was simply installing a titanium nitride covered trigger pin. It smoothed up the trigger pull tremendously. I didn't do one other thing.
The USMC match conditioning manual shows milling dome off the hammer hooks.
The NRA book seems to be a bit easier than that.

Fulton Armory about 15 years ago. I still have one spare. They were around $6 a piece if I remember right.
