There are guys who build M1 type rifles that take M14 Mags. Try Warbirds.

Yeah, the "Tanker" that takes M14 Mags looks like a neat little rifle. The down side is that it probably costs more than an SA Inc. Scout rifle. I don't see the point in boogering up an M1 to do what an M14 type will do.

The Tanker is a nice brush gun. The one in this pic is  a  .06....same lenght as a 20in A1 AR....

Sarco used to have Armscorp M1a receivers for $360. I wouldn't mess with a Garand receiver over that price differential-what you're paying for the Garand receiver vs. the M1a.

Your question should be 'Is it practicable to build...'

No.

You could use a Garand receiver, but the cost of modifying (cut, reweld, blah, blah) would exceed the price of a M1A receiver quickly. You could probably get one machined out of billet cheaper than modifying a Garand receiver.

Anything is possible, including building  pyramids with bronze age tech, given a big enough budget and enough manpower. I suspect that you do not posses either an unlimited budget or a endless supply of expendable manpower. BSW

Well that is the thing.
The Garand receiver is next to free and i have most of the m1a parts to build.  I always enjoy a good project so my time is does not matter.

There was a guy at TFL who did it and he was able to use the M-14 gas system on it too. It looked just like a M14/M1a but the reciever was a tad longer. I don't know how he got it into a M14 stock though. It looked good and he said a ran well too.

its already been done.  here is a picture of one i found on gunbroker.  it is suppposedly built on a winchester M1 garand receiver.  the only obvious sign is no scope mount hole on the side of the receiver.

the guy wants more for it than a used M1A. interested piece but i'm passing on it.
