Are Italian "B" and "BMP" parts compatible with USGI ?

I'm thinking about picking up a CAI receiver M1 Garand with all Italian parts and building it back up on a USGI receiver. (I can get one cheap at a local pawn shop )

Or better yet, Are their any Italian bare receivers out there ?

Ital garand parts are very good quality and should be completely interchangeable.  I would stay away from CAI garands since you would prob be able to buy a CMP garand of like condition for less money than a franken-garand, a quality USGI receiver+gunsmithing charges to assemble.  However, if you have the tools, experience, time, etc. it may make sense in your case.

Most of, if not all the Italian parts are made by Berretta.

PB = Piertro Beretta
BMB = Breda

Both are good manufactuers and I haven't had a problem with any of their parts in the past.

You can get USGI recievers fairly cheap shipped to your door from the CMP.

Put it all on paper and add it up

CMP woodless Dane  ( will probably come with a few italian parts)   $300.00

Stock fit for refinishing from Dougs stockpile on Ebay $40.00
StockHardware and used handguards from a gunshow $50.00

I would beware the parts in any gun built on to a CIA receiver.  Being BMB or PB aside. Were they new??  re parked ??? The CMP will replace any unserviceable parts that you find.

  Thank all for your replies. I was worried about the CMP barrels.

The parts and barrel on the CAI look brand new. I had a CAI gun before and it shot and functioned great. I sold it to pay for my Dane VAR barrel SA receiver rifle.
