The only reason there is an abudance of 8mm is because it is not that popular of a round. Outside of Mausers, what is really chambered for it?
Nobody is going to make an 8mm Garand. |

Except for the slower burning powders causing higher port pressures and bending your oprod, and most if not all easily obtainable and cheap 8mm is corrosive. |

Both of which can be over come by an adjustable gas plug and proper cleaning. Just remember that all M2 ball amoo was corrosive before about 1952. I thought that i read somewhere that the 8 mm cases didn;t really fit well in the clips. I would love to have a garand in 8mm. I still see ammo for $80/1000. If I did this, I would just find some ammo that the rifle liked and buy enough of it to basically shoot out the barrel. Hell $1000 worth of ammo would keep you shooting a long time. I have read about this being done. I'm sure that you could get a barrel maker to make you one. |

True, but most people are not going to do this while there is still plenty of M2 Ball available. If M2 disappears and 8mm is still around, it may a more viable option. Personally, I would kind of like one but it's not worth the hassle right now. |

The case head on 8mm Mauser is nearly, if not identical to, 30-06. The cartridge length is shorter than 30-06, but longer than 308WIN.
My experience with surplus 8mm Mauser has been very positive in as far as reliability is concerned. The only surplus 8mm that I have found to have dud problems has been the greek. The greek ammo has about a 20% dud rate. This is actually beneficial for marksmanship training. If you develope a flinch, the greek will reveal it. So far, I have used Romanian, Yugoslavian, Turk, Greek, and Ecuadoran. Since I do not have the tools to make a Garand barrel chambered in 8mm Mauser, and none seem to be commercially available, and since there seems to be an irrational bias against them, I suppose that the question is moot. |

In the late 1980's I handled a well used Garand in 8mm Mauser at one of the Reno shows.
The BBL was factory made and had Hebrew characters stamped on it... |

Is your firing pin channel full of cosmoline? My Persian used to do that until I completely disassembled the bolt and cleaned everything out. |

No, not a thing wrong with my Mauser. It's the crappy 8mm surplus. The same thing happens to other Mausers. I bought a bunch of PMC 8mm factory ammo, never had a problem with it. |
