Alright I have ordered my first M1 from CMP and while I wait(only 2 weeks since order confermation for a SA FG) for the order to post as processing. I need some reading material.

I know about surplusrifle.com but what other sites are good for general info/history of the M1?

Also what serial numbers would fall into the time frame for the invasion of Tarawa?
Reason I ask is, my late grand uncle was in this invasion. He was one of 9 survivors from his unit who made it through the invasion. I thought it would be neet to have a M1 that would match this time frame. Thanks one and all.
