Some buddies and me got together and went shooting all day, and when it got good and dark, we used flashlights to find our way back out to my berm and tried to catch a video of the flash my Springfield makes. 22 inch barrel with original style NM flash suppressor. Not only could we not get a muzzle flash to show up on the camera(gave up on that pretty quick), we couldn't ever see anymore than a little spark, at most.

And yes, I used different ammos and tried holding the rifle different ways.

Maybe the Vortec is necessary on the 18 inch bbl, but not on my 22 incher.

Comments?

The flash suppressant in the gunpowder mix has a lot to do with how much flash will be produced.  Some powders produce more flash than others, but in regards to barrel lenght, it does help out a little.

Try aiming the rifle directly at the camera when you fire.  Get one of the friends you don't like so much to take the pic.

No sh*t, I watched my buddy produce a magnificent flaming ball the other day. The funny part is that it was high noon and easily visible.

Uh, yeah. Little to no flash with regular M14 flash suppressor. As I said in my original post, tried different ammo to see different powder.

My old 16.5inch SKS would make a nice basketball-sized flame with chinese ammo.

M44 would do the same with S&B.

Here's a picture of my Bushy M4 with Mini-Y Comp. About 3 o'clock on a partly cloudy day.

Valkyre, could you explain a bit on how you take the rapid pics? Is it a digital movie, frame by frame? I too want to see some fire-breathing shots. there is a lot to learn about taking gun-porn  :)

Random rifle muzzle bullet picture i found on the internet.

Anyways, the picture of the M4 muzzle blast I posted was taken with a digital camera in the burst-fire shutter mode, where it takes 16 pictures in about a second. Took more than one try to get it to catch the flame.
