Well, new to me anyway.
 Got it at the gunshow last weekend. Has the round bolt, adjustable rear sight,and bayo lug.

Carbines are always underestimated in sheer "fun" power. I've never been a huge carbine fan, more of an AR guy, but after shooting M1 carbines over the last year or so, I really love 'em. Congrats on your find.

How many rivits does the handguard have? 2 or 4? Looks like 4 from here. Your rear site appears to be the milled adjustable type. Your stock looks like an "I" cut high wood - pretty early. One last question, what is the mag release marked with? Blank, M, or M |

I bet a collector would give you a good chunk of change for that stock. I cut highwood is in pretty good demand. Are their any markings in the wood?

It's an I cut but looks modified to me. (The high cut made into a low cut) Not to say your carbine isn't nice. I think it looks VERY nice!

"M" is on the mag release. What does that mean? The only rivets I see are the three on the bayo lug. |

There is an "IO" in the groove cut for the sling and a faded Ordnance stamp on the side that is barely discernable. |

M means it is a modified catch, better than the original catches. M underlined would be a mag catch made for the thirty round mags. Look on the upper handguard, back near the reciever. There should be either 2 or 4 holes, which have rivits in them. |

Looks like you have a modified I cut high wood stock, and late handguards.
Like all M1 carbines, it is a mix of parts, both early and late. Good buy! Like I recommended earlier, pick up the M1 carbine owner's guide by Scott Duff and Larry Ruth from fulton armory. Great book with lots of history and info on how to keep your war baby running. Best 20 bucks I ever spent.
