What does it take to replace the barrel band on the Auto Ordinace M1 Carbine so that you can install the bayonet lug to make it correct? Thanks

while "correct" is a matter of interpretation, replacing barrel bands isn't that bad.

Drift out the pin which holds the front sight on. Remove the front sight and barrel key.

Slide the barrel band off, slide the type III barrel band on.

place key onto barrel, slide front sight over. insert pin back through.

1) Remove front sight.
2) Take old bbl band off, put new one on.
3) Replace front sight.

Make sure to have the proper special tools for step 1 and 3

Removing the front sight can be an exercise in patience and the proper wielding of a wooden blocks and large hammer in some instances. Lots of patience and susequent use of swear words to keep said patience often required.
