Gentlemen,
To follow up on my last question. Would you think that the M1 Carbine was about the first weapon to be called in a class "Assault Weapon" before or after it went from semiautomatic to M2 Carbine which could go to full auto. Also going from a 15 round mag. to a 30 round mag. ???

Assault weapon is a legal term that was dreamed up by the slimey anti gunners in Congress. Now that the Assault weapons bans has died, the term is meaningless. ( except in those silly states that adopted that nonsense)

Assault rifle is a military term. The M1 carbine does not qualify as one of the requiremnts to be an assault rifle is that it must be chambered for an intermediate power rifle cartridge. The first assault rifle was the Sturmgewehr 44.  (detachable magazine, intermediate power rifle cartrdige, select fire)
