I am seriously thinking about having the Rockola carbine I bought refinished. (it was arsenal rebuilt in 52, with mixed parts) Does anyone have a link to a company that does quality,period correct refinishing?

The company you are looking for is called Miltech. They do a good job but are pricey. I have seen thier work and it is good if I had the extra cash to spend I would have them do my Winchester M1 carbine. But I can't afford thier prices right now. Thanks Arvin Miltech Restorations |

Thanks!...not bad for $200 eh! I literally bought it from a little old lady! Arvin, Thanks, but not Miltech, there was some guy that restored metal parts, in the NE are iirc. My father a WWII vet will redo the wood, he uses the same process they used 60 years ago, and can make the stocks look fantastic! ....still looking for the metal refinisher..... |

You might want to try Dean's Gun Refinishing. He is in TN near Jacksboro in the east end of the state. He does a LOT of Garands and other mil surp weapons. I have not used him, but have seen his work and it is very good. AFAIK, he uses the authentic finishes as well. I know he posts a lot on Culvers web site, and is probably an advertiser there. Go over and look him up.

Why refinish? This is an "as issued" M1 Carbine at present.
I'd lose that mag pouch off the stock. All it does is scratch the stock with the snap on the back. -- Chuck |

I've seen original pouches with either the snap cut off on the backside, or I've seen electrical tape over the snap to prevent the scratching. That is what mine has. I'm for leaving it original. It looks too good to fuck it up; and ANYTHING you do is going to fuck it up. |

There is nothing "reasonable" about carbines these days. That market has just gone nuts in the last few years. "Restoring" carbines to "original" is something of a mania these days and the price of parts is reflected in it.
Your's looks just fine to me. I'd leave as is. |

I'm always looking for an excuse to post my carbine.
 I say, shoot it til the barrel wears out, then either put it up on a wall to look at, or get another barrel to shoot it some more. It's nice looking the way it is. |

Shot it this morning at 25 meters after rebuilding the bolt. I was basically testing for functionality but I did these 2 - 10 shot groups for fun.
