I was looking through a catalog from Brownells the other day and say a new styled bolt relase from a company called Rooster33. It looks like an outstanding upgrade for my M1A. Are there any reasons not to use this. Can it in any way damage the rifle or make Springfield's warranty void? If anyone has a pic of this part installed I would like to see it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a rooster bolt catch in each of my M14Ss. Thousands of rounds later no bad news to report.

Can't comment on the warranty part of your question though...sorry.

I would have no hesitation recommending the part.

If it's anything like the Smith Enterprise, Inc. Extended Bolt Stop it is well worth it.
IMHO, this is a great mod for any M14 type rifle.

Agreed, an extended bolt stop for the M14 is an improvement for the platform.

Here's what the Rooster 33 looks like on the gun:

I have both, although the Rooster 33 isnt on the gun, because it took FOREVER(almost a month when said and done) to get it, even though I ordered it before the Smith Enterprise stop. I about gave up on the boy. He's hell on answering emails too. I didnt know Brownells was selling the Rooser 33. I like the look of the Rooster better, but the SE works great and I'm just leaving well enough alone. Having the spare will give me an excuse to get another M1A.

Got a SEI Extended Bolt Release on mine. Love it.

Here's SEI's pic of the release.

If you do get one, ask here how to install it. It can be tricky. Not difficult, just tricky.

People actually use the bolt lock ?

Really though they are an unnecessary gadget on an M1a-M14, use the money for practice ammo instead .

My SEI EBS works as advertised. It is a very useful and practical upgrade to any M14 type rifle.

Interesting.

My EBS is marked U.S. on the inside.
You can just make out the top of the U and most of the S in Valkyre's close up picture above.
Will the new ones be marked on the outside?

Quite a bit. The Rooster makes locking the bolt open with one hand much easier and reloads a bit quicker. It is a very nice upgrade part. His op rod spring guides are quite slick as well.

M4Gunner.... its an 30 round mag. and no its not reliable. someone gave it to me to see if I could make it work and it FTF about half way through the mag. Looks cool for a photos shot though

Do you know where to get good 25,30 round mags?

The 25 round M14 mags that Rguns are selling look, feel, and work like USGI 20 rounders, only bigger

. They are listed as USGI contract. I'm not sure it that is true, but they sure look like they could be. I have experience with about a half dozen between myself and other MN members. They have all been flawless.

I stand corrected -- Just spoke with Ron. The first batch, principally for the Navy and the Army, was marked "U.S." in the void behind the paddle as indicated above. The latest batch is marked US and Tempe, AZ in the same location as previously. These will be going again to the Navy, as well as the USCG and another Army requirement.

I thought the same thing. Now, I infer that by pressing the top portion of the bolt stop it will release the bolt on a loaded magazine (rather like an AR-15).

Am I correct?

I must be a low speed recliner ranger as I prefer the 10 rd. mags in my scout. Better balanced, sleeker, and if I can't do it with a 10 rd. mag of .308 and some spares I'm either missing alot or need tacair. The 20 is pushing it actually, so I'm somewhat mystified why anyone would need 25 or 30, especially when it (IMHO) asses up the balance and handiness of the weapon.

Just depends on technique and what the rifle is used for. I think the 20 rounders are perfect. To each their own.
