Here is my latest email reply from Springfield about the SOCOM 16 Gen II:
1. Is that a standard USGI stock? If not, what are the specifications for this stock?
Yes, that is a new condition USGI stock.
2. Does this rifle utilize all USGI parts? If not, what parts are cast versus forged?
Although we do use some USGI parts in our M1A production, there is no set list
of parts that are USGI, as parts availability constantly changes. What is not
available as USGI will be newly manufactured parts, built to USGI specs.
3. Is the Cluster Rail System available to upgrade existing Springfield M1a?
The Cluster Rail system will be available for sale separately late in 2005.
MSRP will be $399.
4. Is the Cluster Rail System meet military spec? Any problems with mounts (ARMS, Knights, LeRaue, etc) and this rail system? What are the specifications of the rails on this rifle?
The Cluster Rail is a standard 1913 Picatinny rail. There are no military specs
for a cluster rail system. The standard length rail does not prohibit the use of a
standard scope mount.
5. Is a flash hider available for folks in GA? Muzzle brakes are just too loud!!!
The SOCOM is only available with the special muzzle brake. This is part of
the design and cannot be changed.
