What type of metal finish was put on Garands of ww2 era, and is it possibly to duplicate?

This is a very touchy subject with M1 collectors, Finish was parkerized BUT the correct color is still much disputed. Color varied from manufacture and varied through out production.

Medium/Dark Grey, Black or Black with green hue are the common colors observed on WW2 M1's.
Dean's does a very nice black green at a reasonable price.

Don't drive yourself crazy trying to get the exact color. The fact is there is no exact color. Go with a zinc phosphate.
