Why would that be an AWB issue? Carbines are even legal here in CA since they only have 1 "evil" feature, the removable mag.

The M1 Carbine doesn't fall into the "ASB", it has no "evil features" other than a bayonet lug and you get one free "evil feature." Some M1 Carbines, like my 1944 Inland, don't even have one.

Carbines have TWO evil features right now, the detachable mag, and the bayonet lug. The para troopers models are currently illegal to manufacture BUT I would believe that any that were USGI surplus would be preban since they haven't made them for quite a few years.
I would have to file this under the B.S. file.

While this will hopefully be moot in two days:
The detachable magazine is NOT an evil feature. It's a defining feature, just like being semi-automatic is a defining feature. It's been completely legal under Federal law the past 10 years to manufacture a rifle with all, meaning every one of, these features: ~ Theaded muzzle. ~ Grenade launcher. ~ Flash supressor. ~ Telescoping or folding stock. ~ Pistol grip. ~ Bayonet lug. Legal if the rifle is not BOTH semi-automatic AND have a detachable magazine. Semi-automatic with no detachable magazine? All these parts are legal -- and not evil. Detachable magazine, but not semi-automatic? All these parts are legal -- and not evil. -- Chuck |

Part II:
The M1 Carbine is seimautomatic AND has a detachable magazine. Therefore it's illegal until Monday to manufacture one with more than one of the "evil features." You get one free and that's the bayonet lug already on the Post-WW2 rebuilds. If you had a flash supressor on it prior to 13 Sep 94, and every one did, the carbine is a grandfathered, legal semiautomatic assault weapon. Hopefully this will be trivia in a couple of days. -- Chuck |
