Anybody out here sporting a TA01B or any of the other .308 ACOGs on their M1A's?
Feedback would be welcome. Thanks! Hep |

I think there are a few guys over at M14 Firing Line that do. Try post something there.

Here's my M1A Scout
The TA11E was custom mounted to the ARMS mount by milling the channel a little wider and drilling two holes in it. It was then screwed on through the magwell. Lowered the scope about 1/2" from standard mounting. http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/594_1091397601_m1ascopeoblique.jpg http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/594_1091397578_m1aoblique.jpg |

Aussie_E, nice looking rifle and a very clever idea.
Trijicon made a dedicated M14 ACOG, but I have had a hard time tracking one down (got outbid on one on ebay). I have been considering the Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x20mm Illuminated Reticle, or a Compact ACOG with the ring mount. But then again, the irons on an M1A are just so sweet. |
So THAT"S the rifle my scout mount came from...Nice set-up Aussie
My bush/scout is working out fine with an Aimpoint..... |
The TA01B? |
I would definatly go with a TA11 over any other Trijicon ACOG as ot has a little more eye relief. You still have to get up on the scope but not as much as a TA31. The 1.25-4x Accupoint is sweet and has all types of eye relief ( have one on my comp AR forward of the receiver and one on a scout mount on my 45-70 guide gun) but this is not a tactical scope. If you would be happpy with something not as rugged as a ACOG and a lot cheaper the Accupoint is a great scope.
I prefer the reticle of the TA01B.....
So did Trijicon drop the ball on this unit, as far as eye relief???? |
How about an Elcan? One of those might fit okay with the lower Smith Enterprises tactical scope base. Plus the Elcan is really expensive for those of us on an unlimited budget!
Lumpy's got the right idea |
thats a acog and a eotech cowitness ? why ????
cant wate here this |
It's probably a TA01B and has no BAC. So the EoTech ret viewed through the ACOG provides that capibility. I'm gonna try it when I get home. |
whats does BAC meen?
i am lost but i do wont to understand. alittle more info please.. thanks,,,,, |
Here you go.... |
OK thanks i know what BAC meens now, but why would you mount the eotech in front of the acog ?
sorry but i am still lost |
Me? No, not me...I just said I was going to try it when I got home. I did. It was a little odd. I was able to look through my TA01 and see the enlarged EoTech reticle. I imaging one (the pictured trooper) could use it like so. HOWEVER, I think it's more likely that he uses the ACOG as his primary, EoTech off. When need be, he pops off the ACOG and fires up the EoTech. I guess the ACOG goes into a read pocket/pouch/etc.Essentially using the rail as storage space. I recall seeing a pic of an operator in 'stan who had a carry handle mounted on the left side of his RAS on his M4. Looked odd, but I guess it was the best set-up for him. |
What do you fellows think of the IOR Valdada 4x24 M2 .308 Tactical Scope with the CQB reticle???
It can be found here... Or what do you think of IOR Valdada in general??? |
That's it....I've decided. I'm putting my 512 Rev F on. Go ahead....kick my ass.
Aussie_E,
What kind of cheek piece is that? Someone gave me one of those, but I don't know who makes it. Do you have a better pic of it? I'm also trying to figure out the best way to cinch it down. Thanks! |
eskkay,
That is a Blackhawk Industries cheekpiece. What I did: 1. Loop the "shoelace" through the to rear holes. 2. Open the buttplate on the rifle and loop the back lace under it with cheekpiece on the stock. This cinches the cheekpiece horizontally. 3. Lace the cheekpiece from front to back. 4. Tie a knot at the front behind were you place your firing hand. 5. Thread the extra lace back under the cheekpiece and laces. I just figured this worked best for me. No loose end exposed, cinched both vertically and horizontally and I didn't have to cut any laces incase I needed the extra lenght in the future. If you want some pics email me so I can email them to you and don't have to waste storage on my picture hanger sight. Aussie E |

Doesn't the ACOG also have a very short eye relief? Like 2" vs. 3-3.5" for most conventional scopes?
Ya the eye relief is short, the TA11's have about an extra 1" on the 31's, but you still have to get up on it. You can be further back if your doing in close work and have the dot/triangle/chevron out of focus. You just super-impose it on the target ans squeeze the trigger.
How about a good set of factory iron sights and forget about it? All the techno hocus pocus looks like more trouble than it's worth. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, shooting with iron sights is essential number one....but IMHO the "hocus pocus" shouldn't be shunned. Hell, if we didn't embrace some hocus pocus we'd be getting ARFCOM MONTHLY instead of posting on the World Wide Web. |
better target ID at longer ranges iron sites do not have the X factor. |
Aside from the hatred for the Leupold CQ/T out here, has anyone tried one on an M1A? I see it working well for CQB to Meidum range. Thoughts?
lumpy you said you wonted to mount a trijicon accupoint wth bac in a configeration that will actually work,
so what mounts rings wich accupoint ? |
3x9 Accupoint, LaRue rings, still deciding on a McCann or Smith Enterprise mount. |
lumpy, would a cheek pad still be needed for proper cheek weld?
the larue mounts why use them over say arms or leupold ? i found an acupoint 3x9x40mm bac amber point. for$500.00 NIB thats a good deal eh ? |
The Accupoint for under $500 is a good deal. Should really get a new style one with finger adjustable windage and elevation knobs.
that's what i was thinking as i started to read this thread. it's also very lightweight and the 2x has acceptable eye relief for a .308. |
I have been thinking about trying that same setup on my Scout. Here are a couple more pics of the M14 ACOG. |
Quinlan, I've seen pics like those somewhere before. Does Trijicon still make those? I don't see them anywhere on their website. |

Here is what I did to my issue National Match M14 here in Iraq for I had a similiar problem. Had the iron sighted M14 and a M4A1 with EOTech and ACOG. End up ordering a SA scout mount for the EOTech because the height was too high for the ACOG plus eye relief. (cheaper to order just a mount then a new mount plus scope you don't have) I generally carry the M14 daily as a main battle rifle (ammo LR M118) and use the the M4 with the ACOG and EOTech (ammo MK262 and M855). M4 also has Surefire M3 Milinniuem light.
An added benifit of having the reddot out forward is when you have NVGs mounted you can pick up the reddot and shoot without having to carry a AN/PEQ-2 or 4, (NODs don't bang into the EOTech since their far enough forward) |
Check this out. I think this what I'm going to do with my M1A. Troy's drop in stock. $650.

I did what lumpy wonts to do ! i put a acupoint 3x9x40 BAC on my m1a and it is bad ass!
i think this is a much better set up than the ACOG. thanks lumpy for the great IDEA ! |
Hey asm1, where did you find an accupoint for $500? Or was it a private party? thanks. |
I'm going with a Nightforce 2.5-10x24 FC2 ret. I think that gives a good range of performance.
