I've been around air compressors and hand pumps most of my life, but what works best? I'm a blackpowder .50 and .45cal. lead caster already, am I good to go with an air rifle?

I have been off the board there for a while, and never really looked into it that much, but do recall a lot of talk about quackenbush.  That said, define large, as .25 is not mainstream.

Check out the Benjamin Rogue in .375 with an electronic valve. Folks have even taken game in Africa with it - I don't think a whitetail, at least the ones in my state (MD) stand a chance - and it comes with a suppressed shrouded barrel, so the neighbors won't be calling SWAT teams on you - though you kind of have to question the safety of shooting a gun, air powered or not, that can put both an entry AND and exit hole in a deer! the backyard!
