For much of my law enforcement career, I carried a Glock on my side(first a Glock 17 when they first came out in the 80s, and later in the 90s, my Glock 19), and generally a Mini-14 with a Galati Intl. 6 pack shoulder bag of factory 30s in the trunk.  There were also times it was an M1 Carbine instead, or an occasional AR, but the Mini was king as far as I was concerned.  Remember, back in the 80s and 90s, AR15s were still somewhat of a rarity, rather than the most popular rifle in the United States as they are now.

Back then, of course, I didn't have the FLV, but thats what I would use for the Zombie Apocalypse~

My dad is retired Texas DPS and he had a Mini-14 in the closet of his DL Sargent job. He had never shot it. I remember seeing it around 98-99 and asked him about it. He said he had to have it even though he never shot it.

Nothing wrong with a Mini as a back up.

My first rifle on the S.W.A.T. team was a stainless mini.. lucky to hit anything with that, but we quickly updated to M4 rifles
