Cmmg burned me hard. There short handguard is pure friction lock and while that worked when my AR was cold it started sliding on me when I put only one or two mags through it.

Anyone know what the best most secure handguards are for a sub 8" barrel. I wont try to save a buck this time. But once cry once right? Should have listened.

Do we need to ask if you installed them correctly?

I hope so!!!

The cmmg has a round barrel not and it fits to the round inside of the handguard which is righted by two Allen screws only at the bottom. No cross bolts. No shaped edges to fit over. No overlapping of the upper. So I am assuming it is the handguards fault.

those two come to mind. I have a Samson evo on my 9mm ar, and it works fine for me. I also have 2 Seekins MCSR rails, and they both are nice, and centered easily since it just slides over its own barrel nut, with tabs to keep it centered to the upper.

you can also go with a quad rail, I'm sort of partial to the quad ral, though I have been buying newer keymod rails.  I like the fact that I don't have to buy/ADD a part to mount a standard pictinny part.

i have a samson evolution 7'' on my 7.5'' 556, works great, remember to tighten the 2 clamp screws AND the set screw, makes a difference i found out, uses standard barrel nut, i paid about 150 for mine, continiuos top rail and you can configure the rest the way you want, love mine

I just purchased a 7.5 inch rail from Phase 5, its a slant rail design and it looks pretty nice. It has its own barrel nut that has tapped holes that the rail mounts to with allen heads.

I'm also NOT a fan of CMMG's rails / mounts.

I've got several DD LITE rails in various lengths and like them A LOT.

I absolutely love my Wilson Combat.

If you can wait for it, it'll go on sale for about $170 plus shipping.

this. EASY to install, and should clear that 7.5 might not work if you're gonna suppress it..

I really like the Centurion C4 Rail System. Simple, easy and work with the standard barrel nut.

Daniel Defense also makes the DD Lite Rail III in a 7 as well as the Omega Rail in a 7

I like my SLR rifleworks handguard.  I think it comes in a 7" in some variations.

I had a similar problem with a CMMG keymod.  I was shooting out of a led sled with my 300 blk and the handguard started to pull off the barrel nut.  Decent price but not the best design.
Some thread locker on the cross screws and torqued back to spec and haven't had any other issues, yet.
