I've got two options that I really like, but can't decide for my SBR build.

Just want to get your input.

Option 1: re barrel my current carbine with a 11.5" BCM LW barrel.
I did a crappy shop of this, but gives me a good idea of the over all look.

Option 2: BCM 11.5 upper - for some reason I feel this looks more appropriate for an SBR. Down the road I could pick up a centurion rail for it.

*this is one of yours, it's awesome and I am using your pic as inspiration.

This will be a 5-150 yard rifle, probably not going to be a suppressor host. It really comes down to do I want a fixed fsb or a FF tube.

I do like the classic lines of #2 but #1 would be cheaper and easier.

#1 is my preference

I vote #1.  You better go that route so you can spend the extra on ammo for the shoot in January..

Option 2.

I did just purchase a new MK18 upper, so it is closer to #1, but my second lower I have in process is definitely going to be an 11.5 with and A2.

I freaking love them, it is the only SBR I have actually fired.  They are sweetness.

Both!
For real. Build one into a pistol and swap uppers when needed.
If I could only chose one it would be number 2 just because I'm digging that style right now.

I'm eyeing this set up right now. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XSTU5310MOE&name=Spike's+Tactical+ST-15+LE+11.5%22+LWT+5.56+Pistol%2fNFA+URG&groupid=750

Option 2. Well... because that's what I did.

I love my 10.5 and shoot it out to 200 yds regularly.

I vote the first option btw.

Number 1. I made several AR pistols that were like #2 and never kept them long but I really enjoyed my one that was setup like #1. It allows for a grip further out which allows more control and comfort.

Option 2.  But instead of a MOE handguard slap a KAC RAS on it instead

#2.

I think a FSB looks good on a SBR. Any AR for that matter. It says "functional" vs "Tactical and equally functional" to me.

Option 2 with a CompM4 is what I will be doing when my stamp comes back.  Until then it is a pistol but I am waiting on my CompM4 to arrive.  I will post a picture when it shows up later this week.

nice.

I do have an A1 upper I could build a 2nd 11.5 out of, I do love a 733 clone.

Or maybe something like this, Noveske 10.5., Switchblock, carbine Centurion C4 rail.

Out of your choices, I'd go option 2. Out of my choices, go with option 3 and the 733 clone.

I do like the look of the 9" Alpha rail with the 11.5" better than the 11" rail and the 11.5" barrel.

Actually, I think the visual balance of a 9"/10" rail looks better than the 11" on the 11.5"

Both, seriously. This is what i just built. It now has KAC sight front and rear and is waiting on a Micro and my SDN-6. I absolutely love it!

But i am also building another upper for my other SBR lower. It will be a plain 10.5 barrel with fixed FSB, Colt hand guard on a Colt A2 upper with a CAR stock. It will basically be what Monkey Wrench built with a CAR stock, M4 GI hand guards and a Tango down grip. This is the lower it will be on. It should be a nice simple clean build.

I would probably do the 1st one first.

PS i just saw MW has a A1 upper. I would go with whichever you can get a better deal on. A1, simpler, lighter and so on. A2 more adjustable if you need it.

I would go with no FSB for a SBR.

After endless reading last night...

I think a 12-12.5" would be sweet to have as a general purpose SBR, with that said, I could get a 12' with FSB and then do option 1 and replace the carbine barrel with an 11.5".

I vote option 1.  I use red dot almost exclusively, FSB just gets in my field of view.  Also, I like HK or DOA styled iron sites.

i played around with my uppers tonight, and realized why I floated some and left some with the FSB.

I'll be going with a variation of option 1,

I'm thinking 9"/ 10" rail and 11.5 barrel.

A 12.5 Kino is the best SBR imo since it has a middy rail, and FSB. YMMV.

just ordered a 11.5" Daniel Defense CHF barrel from DSG arms for $189 shipped.

Update:

Final configuration has been decided - just waiting on my form 1 and parts to arrive.

Current form:

Build list:
The new parts:
11.5" Daniel Defense CHF 1/7 barrel
BCM low pro gas block
BCM barrel nut
Standard A2 flash hider w/ crush washer
AIM 9130 BCG

Existing parts that will be used:
11" VTAC
Kaboom upper
Aimpoint Pro in LT150
MBUS
TLR-1 @ 12 o'clock
current lower setup

Should looks similar to this (outdated and poorly photo shopped for short barrel)

I really like the look of a 9-10" rail on the 11.5" barrel with some of the barrel sticking out, looked balanced in my opinion. After playing around with my current setup, I realized that with the mbus moved back and my TLR-1 at 12 o'clock it was perfect for my needs.

As much as we all like new things, it hit me - if its not broken, don't fix it.   So I decided that function / comfort > looks, so here we are, plans are finalized and I can always build another upper at a later date.

After reports that eforms submitted in October are getting approved as of this morning, there his hope that I can have this bad boy together by Christmas.

NFA Tracker shows that one is a Form 3 to the dealer just an FYI.

Mine were submitted 8-29 an 8-31 so I am hoping I didn't screw them up and get my stamps soon but I was told by Gary that those being processed are just them testing the system so I don't have high hopes at this time.

Well that stinks.

However, there are a lot of August and September approvals as posted in the main thread as of this week. I think the "test the system explanation" is a clever ruse to calm down calls / emails to the branch, just my $0.02, as it seems to be an extended test.....

Also, Gary said earlier this week on the phone they are being processed much faster than standard paper submissions, but did not elaborate.

I like it. What are your plans as far as buis?

Also how are you liking the pro in the larue mount? Ive been thinking about a pro in an adm mount or a micro in a adm mount.

I LOVE the larue mount. I've tried ADM and LaRue - without starting a this vs that discussion, I prefer the larue system.

As for buis, I have a set of MBUS for the time being and I'm not too concerned on upgrading. However I have been considering some options:

Daniel defense front and rear
Troy folding front and rear
DD front and troy rear

Really need to think about it.

So.... plans have changed.

I bought a YHM SS 5.56 Phantom

With that said my rail options changed as well.

All parts have been ordered as of this morning and the parts / build list is finalized:

11.5 DD CHF barrel
10" Centurion C4 rail
Magpul VFG
YHM QD flash hider
BCM gas block and barrel nut

then some krylon
