New in the box, never fired. Original owner that I trust completely. Has box and all paperwork. He's asking $450.00. Might be able to do a bit better. I've handled it and it is as stated. Always wanted one but just have a hard time in that price range for a .22 lever. I'm not buying it to be a safe queen / commemorative, I will shoot it. OTH I see used 39's going at that or more. At least I know this one is new. Any thoughts? TIA

Any idea the year it was made? Older ones ( prior to mid 90's) are worth more than newer ones.

It's worth that price in that condition.

The older ones have a better rep for better fitting and better cycling.

The later ones from when the Marlin plant was actually shutting down or the ones made in the Remington plant have had their QC issues. So I would say a testfiring might be in order before plunking down your cash. Marlin/Remington will fix it if there is an issue.

I would look for one without the crossbolt safety but that's my preference as I despise the lever guns with the crossbolt safety.

I just did a fast check and it seems like they are going anywhere from 600 to almost 900,so I would say 450 is a good deal.

I bought a 39as(safety) last year used that was like brand new for 400 ,if I remember right it's from 1987.

The 39m article 2 is a way nicer rifle and I would jump on it if it were me looking at it.
Edit ........... I just Googled imaged the 39m and it's a beauty.Also you know Remington took over Marlin a few years back and quality has gone to shit right?

No better reason to not pick up a real Marlin.

The Marlin 39-M Article II Carbine was made in 1971.
There were 3,824 made.

These were made during a period of very high Marlin quality, so that rifle in that condition would be a prime buy.
The Blue Book lists one in NIB at $495, and that would be low in todays market.

Haven't got it yet, but it's on hold for me. Should catch up with him in the next few days. Really didn't want to wait but as they say, stuff happens. No worry though, it's not going anywhere.

Cool,I have a regular 39 and it's one of my favorites.I got into lever guns a few years back after having one for a year or so in the 1980's then sold it ,and all of a sudden I wanted one again and this time it's love.

So far I have 3 Marlins and looking to add more, 39A,1894 44mag ,and a 1895gs 45/70.Now I'm on the look out for a 35rem, 357mag and a 336-30/30 if I can find one cheap.The 357 and the 35 I'm willing to spend a few bucks for, but 30/30's are a dime a dozen and will only buy one if it's no more then $300.00.
