I'm going to buy an AUG. A green 16". The only AUGs I've ever shot had the original 1.5X circle reticle. The AUGs I'm looking at with the 3X optic are right around $100-$200 more than the 1.5X. If I can get a good deal on a 1.5X, do you folks think I'll miss the extra magnification  afforded by the 3X?

Thanks for your insights!

1.5X is classic, any reticle. But I like the new 3x.

I say get the 3x. But I also use a red dot on top as well. But unless you really want or need the. Save your cash and get the 1.5x

I've had a 1.5x since the 90s. Go for a 3x

That really depends on the intended use. Fun day at the range toy? competition? Hunting? Personal (Home/Apocolypse/Govt takeover) defensive weapon? If you don't have a purpose for having 3x magnification MOST of the time, then save the pennies. Chances are you can spend those on some other accessory that you'll get more use out of. Or even (gasp) that much more worth of ammunition to use getting to know your new friend.

If you're going to add a red dot on top, get the 3x. If you just want one optic, I'd go 1.5x.

That's how I have my G36 posties configured. 3x dual optic on the full-size, and 1.5x export optic for the K. Both have their uses.

My A2 AUG has its original 1.5x circle cross reticle, and my A3 usually wears an ACOG TA31RCO-M4, although sometimes I swap an EOTech 553 onto it.

1.5x for CQB distances, 3x for everything else.

I have and like the 1.5x on my AUG, and the design of the reticle makes it useful well beyond CQB ranges.  Now if all I wanted to do with my AUG was punch holes in paper, then the 3x might be the better choice for me.

You use the exact same principle with the 3x donut. It just adds a bit more magnification and I find it works fine for CQB stuff as well. Of course it's a little slower than .5x.

I like 1.5 to 2x hunting yotes or steel out to 200 yds. 3x is too much unless you're sitting on a bench at a range.

There is another advantage to the 1.5x.  You can get them without the rails.

My "experienced" eyes love the 3X. Wish it came in a rail-less model though!
