We have a lot of large projects we are working on, and if someone else wants to take up this as a priority project please be my guest. Otherwise I will look at it when I have time, but right now I have three major design projects in front of it that have to get done first, and have to design and manufacture a special tool just to get the dang mag release out of the stock to inspect how it is designed. I hadn't heard of the deficiency in the mag catch until now. On mine, the catch itself which interacts with the magazine is metal, but the release is plastic. So the plastic release eventually breaks?
It is held in by a special Microtech screw. They are available online. Here, if actual stock is correct: Switchbladekits.com |

With the dome on the head of the screw 2.0mm seems to be long enough to get a reasonable amount of contact..... I may have 3D printed one for a test fitting and just hadn't found time to sneak one in a mill.

Since this issue has not be resolved yet, I will try fix it myself.
The microtech Knife screw bits might works getting that 3 dot screw out. Here’s the rough dimensions of the diameter and distance between holes. Is everyone’s E4 screw similar dimensions? I may speak to a machinist about making the parts. It would be good to have pictures of the SS version, of anyonr one has them. If I was get these parts machined. It wouldnt be cheap though , so I would get just one big batch done if anyone else wants some, and post the schematics of the part for any other victims in the future with this issue in their rifle.

Got my E4 out after several years in the safe and low and behold a mag got stuck. took some finesse to get it out but I'm now in for one please!

Anybody have a pic of the new mag catch or the mag catch itself?
I have a friend that worked at MSAR and now owns his on machine shop that could possibly make them if Sven doesn't have time to do them.

Count me in. Currently have a magazine stuck. What a pain in the ass. The release does not even engage. Otherwise, i am impressed with the E4 stock. It has some solid design elements that are a major improvement over the AUG NATO stock. How did MSAR go so far as to build a whole gun and then screw such small elements like the magazine release? I do not understand.

I found I could slide an ID card up the side of the magazine where the catch is located. Dislodged the magazine a few times for me

I need a new one and would like to order a spare.
I have been in contact with Wendel at Microtech, but have yet to get a mag catch from them even though they claim to have a bunch of them on hand but they aren't allowed to ship them. Frustrating to say the least. |

I finally gave up and decided to try and fit a NATO AUG stock to my E4.
There is a guy named Nick at Promoted Pawn, LLC that makes small parts for the MSAR. We emailed back and forth for a few, but he says he made a batch of the new mag catches in both aluminum and reinforced polymer. Got a mag release from promoted pawn today. Obviously can't say if it will last long term, but seems very well made. I can actually use metal and msar e4 mags.

Promoted Pawn dose have a "Prototype E4 Mag Release" listed on their site now. But they are 3D printed, which should work.

The one I took out is harden steel, and I don't like the idea or the rough 3d printed texture on bearing surfaces. Recently I got around to building a custom bit to get the proprietary bolt out. Now I will see about getting some CAD made of the catch some time.

I have the cad pretty well worked out, and have 3d Printed some test pieces to ensure they function. Image is from one of the first test prints.
That said my rifle had the brass case gouging issue and didn't have the issue before the magazine latch was replaced under the recall. I am assuming the metal catch they put in is out of spec, and my guess is it would have the same issue in other peoples rifles. Thus I am playing with the latch catch height attempting to get a consistent cartridge pick up and minimal gouging on the side wall of the next case in the process. After I get that worked out I will probably get around to machining a metal one, but it is going to be a pain. I foresee some custom fixtures and bad words in the future for machining this.

I just checked my stocks: stanag stock has the three hole screw but it looks like a piece of metal holding the mag on the side but my E4 stock has the plastic piece that holds the MSAR mag at the back and is held in place by an Allen headed bolt.
Anyone else have this? |
