Although these were all allocated and had buyers arranged, there are now a couple spots open as of today at PJs (Pete Athens).

If you want one, the pricing shipped as usual is better than anything you can find on GunBroker.

Anyone know if there is any legal way to convert one of these to S/A (ie. adding in the shelf that prohibits the insertion of an F/A trigger pack.)

OK... Time to answer the question of "what is better than an AUG?"

The only thing better than an AUG is a new STG77 of course.

Couldn't say anything till now - but I did give enough clues that a few people guessed it already...

Do we know what the price might be on these? I emailed PJs almost a week ago and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Honestly probably more than I want to spend anyway but if it's close enough to an M1 price I might bite over the M1 I was planning on getting.

I jsut called Pete today and he has to call me back later- I will ask him if he knows anything.

I  heard about this STG77 project from Steyr in January, and was hoping it would come to fruition.  I suspect they will sell out quickly and Steyr will hopefully make more of them!

I don't know anything about price, but as to numbers, I gave some input that they keep these limited in number and not pull the same deal as the white stocks. Nobody was happy with that situation... These will all sell out because of what they are and how they are limited to 400 only.

These are going to be neat. These don't say AUG anywhere on them, stg77 only. Special model name, special serial numbers, a special stock made just for these, serialized barrel, carrier, and receiver, old style hex check nut, 905 type tulip closed flash hider, no side rail, A1 charging handle, M1 type receiver, A2 optic reticleusing with donut-center dot reticle. 20" only and green only.

The cool part is going to be the logo on the case...

Same situation, I think it comes down to if you want a shooter or a collector's item.

The good thing is that at the projected price point, the STG 077 will be a direct alternative to an M1 without requiring a significant collector premium up front.  Kudos to Steyr USA for going forward with this project.  Unless you need the rails, it will be 100% as functional a shooter as an M1, with the added bonus of a retaining a potential collector premium down the road.  Think of it as an M1 variant that may potentially retain higher value even if used.

It will be interesting to see if Steyr will offer the "A2" optic from the anniversary edition as a separate optic option for M1 owners.  I think this would be a very popular option, given all of the comments on the forums about the currently available optics.

I've been asked to pass word along to NOT advertise the price of what PJS is selling these for.

He only had fifty and 92% of them are already accounted for. Not publicly posting the price keeps Steyr, the other dealers who intend to price them at 3k out the gate, and ar15.com (advertising concerns) off his back and it will keep this thread alive.

Thanks!

Are you certain it will be A1 style charging handle (e.g. rather than A2)?

What are the functional differences?

Specifically wondering if they will have the bolt release on the left side like the A3.

Nvm, found the details on PJSteyrAug.com.

All the stupid attempts at adding rails to the Aug, and modernizing it, that we have seen.   And not one of them looks right.

This though?   My pants just shrunk by two sizes.   I want it.

Even thou I ordered one more and more I'm thinking I'd rather have an 16in OD green M1 with the this optic on it, I hope they make that an option. Regardless of it's collector value I will shoot it lol

I guess I don't get it.
What is special other than being retro?
Is it made here like the A3's and M1's, or actually made in Austria?

It's not just "retro", it's essentially an A1/A2 updated with better internals, receiver, and sold brand new with a great warranty from Steyr - and limited to 400 units only.
If you've ever really looked at an A1 or A2, they are great guns, but not comparable to the AUG's we have today as an A3 or M1.
Anyone can do "retro", this is a standalone new - old model.

The limited number and will keep the price very high on these. I'd guess that in about a year from now a NIB STG77 40th anniversary gun will sell for more than a NIB A1 16 or 20 inch.

Unfortunately depending on who becomes president, these might not ever be seen for sale as used guns due to rarity.

I wonder where the other 350 rifles are going?

There's a certain mega distributor who wanted to buy all 400. I'd guess that what Pete didn't buy, went to them.
