For all of us cheap bastards out there, I give you the Cheap Bastard Media Separator!
My cheap bastard media separator.
Take a 5 gallon bucket and cut it in half. Drill a hole in the center of the bottom big enough to slid over the center stud of your vibratory tumbler. Drill a whole bunch of holes in the bottom. Dump tumbled brass full of media into separate container. Slid bucket onto center stud of tumbler. Dump brass full of media into bucket. Turn on tumbler. Stir brass with hand . All the media falls back into tumbler for next use.     |

What do you do with the media that falls out of the holes all over the place
while your dumping the tumbler and before you get the tumbler back under it? |

Hmmm...I wonder if this could be made to work for SS pins. I've up'd the capacity of my wet tumbler and now its a PIA to separate 10lbs of pins from 10+ pounds of brass. I might sacrifice yet another bucket, I'm getting quite the collection, and see if it works as well.

I have used 1/4 in hardware cloth and an old plastic trash can for years.
Form up basket from HW cloth so it sits about half way down trash can. Dump in brass, shake a little, twist around some, dump out clean brass. Media back into tumbler for next pass. Do it outside there is lead in the dust. |

I just made one of these from wire cloth, wood and an old gas pipe:
 5gal buckets are too costly and in demand around here to drill holes in around here. |

Years ago I bought a separator that sits on top of the vibratory tumbler. It's shaped more like a plastic gold pan and the holes are in the center flat part of the pan.
It's always worked great for me. Good idea to make your own. |

i wonder if my pan sifter will fit in my cleaner tub...
i've been using the frankford arsenal drum separator, but used to use the sifter separator, so I have one kicking around. |
