RE-15 works best with heavier bullets, especially 69 to 77 grain match bullets. With 55 grain bullets start around 25.5 grains, don't go over 27 grains.

RL-15 is not one of the best choices for 55gr bullets. That is way you are having trouble finding data. I'm not saying it won't work or does not work there are just many more better powders for that weight bullet.
I found RL-15 data in my Lee manual for 55gr bullets but it is not specifically for the 55gr A-Max. It lists: 25.3 to 28.0c ("c") indicates that it is a compressed load. If you need a COAL for the A-Max I have Hornady' s 8th and could look it up for you. If you"re loading for an AR-15 it will very likely be your magazine that determines your COAL. Hope this helps. I didn't know that Hornady made 55gr AMax's ? Did you mean the 52gr AMax ?

What you do is find data for the same weight/construction bullet with your powder. Then begin loading at the "start" load (lowest powder charge listed) and work up watching for pressure signs. Re-15 works well with light bullets in 223. One of my most accurate loads uses a 52 gr MK and Re-15. So I disagree with those other posts. Double check your bullets, Hornady makes a 52 gr A Max, not 55 gr.  I suggest you get a drop tube as the case will be full, and top loads compressed. Good luck

I meant to say 55gr V-Max.. but thank you for the information. with powder being hard to find these days, I picked whatever ever I could get a hold of.
I am also loading for my .308 with 168gr Nosler custom comps, and RL-15 will work for it also. I am waiting until my buddy gets back and he is going to sell me some Ramshot TAC powder so I can load my .223 with 77gr SMK. |

You can use Re-15 for 55 and 77 gr bullets in 223.

I'm running 26.0 gr of RL-15 with 55gr sp's. You'll find RL-15 to be slower than more "appropriate" powders, but accuracy won't be a complaint.

Reloder 15 data is hard to find because it is "more suitable" for bullets on the heavy end for .223 Rem, but it also works great for bullets down to 52 grains weight. You'll have a case full of gunpowder, right up to the bottom of the neck; 27.0 grains fills a Winchester case to the bottom of the neck, 27.4 grains fills it to the tip top of the neck, and I have loaded a bunch that way, but it's too hard to avoid spilling powder before the bullet is seated and powder compression is high enough to push the bullet back out of the neck slightly even with good neck tension. I use 27.0 grains with 52 grain MK's now.

I tried RL-15, accuracy was eehh, at best. I think I ran 26gr and it was a compressed charge, If you're like me you'll end up with powder everywhere on your press. I loaded the pound I had and wouldn't want more. YMMV

I've had awesome success with 52gr bullets and RL15. Best for bullets and best for a certain rifle are always up for grabs.

I've had success with RL 15 under 55gr bullets.
During the panic RL 15 was all I could get, so I ended up doing ~25.5 under 55gr bullets. Accuracy has been good so far. I shoot for accuracy, not velocity though. |

As stated RL-15 is more suitable for heavier projectiles. I tried it on a/v max's in that range but I couldnt get them to shoot accurately with repeatabity. Stick powder is a PITA in my thrower anyway and I hate trickiling up more than say 20 rounds. If your looking for incredible accuracy/precision with 55ish A/V Maxs dont overlook N-133 from vitavhouri. Expensive and may be tough to get but most AR shooters dont touch it as its primarilly a benchrest powder for 6mmPPC's

Every charge of Reloder 15 does not need to be trickled if thrown from a good measure. |
