For me it depends on which AR I am loading for, which bullet I'm using, and the purpose of the load.
Purpose=plinking, hunting, or precession load. But I always load to less than the magazine length of 2.260. |

"Almost" without exception your going to have a more accurate load with the bullet seated as close to the rifling as possible. The problem is the magazine. You can only load to the length of your mag IF you are going to use it. Often High Power, and others, will load heavy, long bullets seated near or into the lead. These loads far exceed the length of the mag and must be hand fed. Yes! You have discovered a very important "secret" to accuracy, whether in an AR or a bolt, single shot.

I had previously loaded a few bullets to 2.200, 2.230 and 2.240 but the 2.255 out shoots them all.
I was just curious as to how many of you fellows load your AR to 2.255. |

I load all my rapid fire and standard ammo to the .255 and verify any new mags that i buy. Works for me and i'm VERY happy with the accuracy.

I haven't noticed any difference in accuracy with 55-62 grain bullets with different seating lengths. Most bullets in an AR still have a long distance to the lands loading to magazine length. For instance, in 2 popular brand AR's a 55 gr.Hornady fmj has to be seated out to 2.370" to 2.390" to touch the lands I seat Hornady 55 fmj's to 2.218-2.230" and military or other sharp tipped fmj's to 2.250". It can make a difference but usually doesn't in most AR's.

"Magazine length" is usually where you want to be in most conventional rifles. |

I never even look at what the load manual lists for OAL, never. It means absolutely nothing to the handloader and his/her firearm. |

All my loads are to mid canal, so case trim length determines OAL.
With Hornady 55gr fmj-bt, I'll have OAL variance of .02" lot to lot (usually 600 rds in a lot) depending on how consistently I set up LE Wilson trimmer and Lee seating die. I have yet to notice a difference in accuracy, but that's more to do with my skill level than with OAL. |

I seat to cannelure [2.20~] on the Hornady and MG 55gr FMJ-BT. non-cannelure i seat to 2.25
