Looking to grab up a program and this one suits my purpose for now, i like redundancy so ill prob get QL later on as i find the format easier to understand with LFAD.

So good bad and ugly? Should i just get QL? Or would my plan of LFAD then QL later be a good idea or vice versa?

The $$ involved is a factor and i'm not much of a numbers guy

I had it.  It was very limited in powder-bullet selection and listed everything in CUP instead of the new PSI.  I thought it sucked,  QL is a lot more $$, but you get what you pay for.

No.  What does it offer that you can't find elsewhere in a manual or for no  cost on line at manufacturer's web sites?

Wildcatting, and obsolete calibers would be a start, also messing with powders that arent "normal" for the caliber.
Really just trying to see what can be done

I'm aware of the limited powder/bullet  issue in the new one you can input your own bullet data now.
Just looking for something to supplement the load manuals and help with development and useful powders for other than listed calibers.

Cant hurt to have too much info at your hands

ook you completely lost me now.....

Heres their website

Mainly im looking at QL and LFAD for one pupose, with all the powders available.

Ie id like to see if power pro varmint would be a good powder for the 25-223 with a 70gr bullet without buying a lb and "guessing" on a start load or if it would even be beneficial to try. replace Varmint with any powder i dont have available.

I have QL and I like it.  I use several books, bullet and powder manufacturers data as well.  If you like, I can offer you a free trial;  I'll run 10 loads for you so you can get an idea if it's worth the $.

The thing does tons of stuff, but like Microsoft Word most people only use about 5% of the functionality, including me.

The User Guide is 120 pages in a PDF and that might help you decide as well.  Drop me an IM if I can help.

Thanks Cap, quick question how up to date is QL?  Does it have new powders like  cfe223, and alliants power pro series. How do you update with new powders?

No not yet.  It is updated about once a year or so.  CFE223 is way new for QL so is 8208 XBR, but they will be included eventually.  Your 25-223 is not in QL's data base either.  If you know how you can add powders and cartridges to QL's data base, I do not know how, yet, maybe never.

Ah ok cool, thank you. Ive been playing with both programs, and biggest diff I see other than averall ease is ql has lots of adjustability while lfad gives you powders that would be optimal in the cartridge.
My chrono should be here soon so ill prob pick up lfad, and work with them together. Later if I want "more"  ill get QL.

QL can do shiot like this.

 Cartridge          : .223 Rem. (SAAMI)

Bullet             : .224, 55, Hornady FMJ-BT w/c 2267
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.260 inch or 57.40 mm
Barrel Length      : 18.0 inch or 457.2 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.

Matching Maximum Pressure: 50000 psi, or 344 MPa

or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 110 %

These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

How did you get the formatting so nice?

Updates?  Yeah - no idea.  I have to find out though as the newer powders and such as well as new rounds.  I know rounds can be done manually, but you have to be very careful: GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out).

I guess they could have a data file to replace the one it currently uses.  I will have to look into that . . .
