I have been using H335 with data off Hodgdon web site. Works well in my AR never tried any of my loads in an AK.

I have found WC844 is the most accurate I have tried in a 20' Colt 7.62x39 upper. Before that I had good luck with A1680.This is with some bulk 123 grain soft points I picked up from Wideners a few years ago.

I've been playing with 7.62X39 for many years. As far as I am concerned, Accurate 1680 is the only powder I will ever use in standard loading for this caliber.

AA 1680 is good for lighter bullets 123gr or less. VV N-120 is great for bullets 123gr or less. H-322, VV N-130 and H-4198 are good for bullets 125-135gr.

AA-1680 is the standard, as it was designed for the 7.62x39. Other powder will work, BLC2, H-335,and IMR-3031. The problem with them is you will run out of case capacity before reaching top velocities. AA-1680 fills the case without compression like the above powders and also makes accurate loads. I load 147 gr FMJ (like in the pic) with AA-1680 as well as 125 gr bullets. |

It's been a couple of years since Wideners had 7.62x39 IMI brass. Dec 09 IIRC. I got lucky and found some at the fun show once. 750 for $50. Otherwise is Win brass for about $20 something for 50 cases. 
Now days I'm loading Berdan primed steel cases and hording the boxer primed brass cases. |

Guy was selling them at the funshow in unmarked plastic bags for $10 per 100. So I picked up a couple bags. Loaded them with the start load, going to the range tomorrow. |

I use H-4198 and H-322. Hornady 123 grain SP bullets or Sierra's 125 grain Pro Hunter .311".

honest question for those of yall that are handloading 7.62x39 in platforms more accurate than the AK, like the guy with a 20" colt AR....
Am i correct in assuming that 7.62x39 is capable of the same accuracy at 100-200 yards as any other common caliber like 556 or 308? I know that the AK platform isnt exactly a MOA precision platform but im wondering if the bad accuracy rap from AK's comes from just the gun, or the gun and the mass produced steel cased russian ammo... basically show me some tight assed 7.62x39 groupings out of yalls custom rigs!

7.62x39 chamber with a bore of .308 inches instead of the foreign bore of .310-.311 inches. |

Steve i was referring to Dryflash's comment about a 1000 yard Red Jacket AK . The 1000 yard rifle is a modified Saiga rifle in .308 not 7.62x39.

thank for all the input the 1680 seems to get alot of support ill try that, and for the guy looking for brass i found a local guy whose brother taught an AK class I picked up 1000 pieces of boxer brass and 1500 pulled projectiles for 120.00 if you want i can call him up and see if he has any more

Yes you are correct, I was making a joke about that show and the switch they made and did not own up to. Still looking for a 1000 yd AK. As in AK not Saiga in another caliber. The 7.62x39 is just not a 1000 yd cartridge.

All my groups are slightly dated,haven't shot at a public range in some time,most of my shooting is done in my backyard nowadays but here are a few hand loads I worked up for my SKS rifles.

Does anybody have a good safe load for loading the 7.62 NATO M62 tracers into the -39? I've got a bunch of them on hand and have seen them before, but I can't locate any info on loads. I've thought of buying some of the .30 carbine tracer and trying them, since they might not be quite as long as the M62's. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What's the bullet weight and bullet lenght?
I have loaded several thousand 147 gr FMJBTSC (silver tip) in 7.62x39. I'm using 150 gr loading data.
