I was thinking of trying to load a 62 gr ss 109 in my 22-250 to see what more velocity would do to the penetration factor of the ss 109.  The rifle I would try it in has 26 inch barrel 1/14 twist. Only a thought. thanks

Don't waste your time. The 1-14" twist is too slow to stabilize that bullet.

Twist rate was my main concern also.  Thanks for the info.

I done a few yr back,, but I have a 24" 1x12 barrel on mine..

Does a number on small rocks.

yeah, twist rate will be an issue as stated.  My 1/14 barrel doesn't even like 52 grain bullets.  My magic happens with 45 and 50 grain V-max's.

I loaded some 55 grain M193 pulls years ago in my .22-250. They left a gray vapor trail all the way to impact. I think it was the exposed lead base vaporizing, but I really don't know for sure. It was pretty cool to watch though. I was shooting them in a Remington 788 and I'm not sure what the twist rate is,

I'd give it a try ! If they don't shoot worth a darn.. what are you out ? Not much...as for the "increased pen. probably won't be that much better.

2-300 fps more will definetly increase penetration. My 2800fps reloads compared to milspec M855 that shoots around 3000fps there was a notceable different in the craters left in my AR500 plate.

Did you have high humidity ?

I shot in a humid condition with a slight haze, and all I seen was a whilte line go out away from me.

Oh well, this post was supposed to be edited into the above post.....

I shot HORNADY 50gr SP for yrs with 748, then made the move to 844 to cut cost, as 22-250 used increased with cool factor of having the suppressor..

I have switched to HORNADY'  50gr V-MAX, groundhogs drop right there in a "POP"..

I was just thinking it would be neat to try. I would settle for just seeing a nice vapor trail.

Ok they are loaded and will be tested soon.  I loaded em up with what I had. I loaded 36.0 gr of  H-380 and seated them 2.40  According to my Sierra book velocity should be about 3600-3650. I will get back with results.

I would guess it would hurt the penetration, but increase the fragmentation.

Just thing about a SS 109 becoming a frag bullet because of high velocity. Thats bad ass. I have a pile of Israeli SS109 so i am looking forward to seeing results.
