Quick question for the hive.  I happened on a post saying that such and such was a good buy for some ammo.  I had some time so I looked and they are advertising 9mm Wolf ammo for 42¢ per round ($21 per box).  I haven't bought any commercial ammo in some 8 years so I know I'm totally out of touch and I don't shoot 9mm at all so I'm clueless on current prices.  That seems awfully high for 9mm to me but what say you?  Is $21 per box for Wolf brass 147grn JHP 9mm a good, fair, or high price for 9mm these days?

In my personal experiance that seems very high. I can pick up Blazer Brass for around $10 a box. Keep in mind this is ball ammo not JHP.

$10.47 at Wal-Mart for Fed 115 grain ball.  And I get Win Ranger 127 HP +P+ in 50 round boxes for $22.  The 147 HP grain stuff is $21. These are at my local gun shop.

That is high for Wolf in my opinion.  Even for HP.

For 147Gr that is typical.  At first I thought you were talking about 115gr.

Wow, 62 grain .223 for 18 cents a round... too bad they're steel-cased... if they were brass I'd be pulling out the credit card...

At the funshow last weekend 9mm FMJ was $11 to $13 per 50 rd box depending on brand. Brass cased brands you have heard of before.

I doubt commercial ammo will ever get back down to the cost of reloading for most calibers.

I was shooting 230grain Hornady XTP's with VIHT N340 powder at an IPSC class the other week, everyone around me was shooting cheap commercial ball ammo.  One of them said I was crazy for shooting such expensive bullets.  I asked him how much he paid per round for his Remington UMC (it was 45ACP, he said 33 or 34 cents).  I told him I had reloaded all the XTP's I was shooting for 24 cents per round. I was only using XTP's because I was out of round nose FMJ's, and couldn't find them at a cheap enough price over the counter to make financial sense on short notice).

When he found out my premium loads cost less than his bulk plinkers, his face was priceless:

I decided not to tell him that I usually shoot cast lead bullets, for around 8 cents each (and that's higher than it should be because I'm not so great at scrounging for cheap lead...)

Prvi Partizan 147 gr. HP $13 per 50 at AIM.  $21 for a box of 9mm Wolf is a ripoff, you can buy Fed,CCI for less than $10 at Wally World they also carry the Tula steel case 9mm for about the same price.

Is that Wolf 50 or 100 per box?

I am guessing that is $21 per hundred, not 50.

The Russian 9mm pistol ammo Wolf,Tula,Brown and Silver bear only comes in 50 rd. boxes.  The steel case ammo will run you anywhere for 15 cents low price to 20 cents on the high side per rd.

Thanks, I looked closely at the box and it does look like a 100rd size.  That makes a ton more sense to me than 42¢ per round for 9mm.

Never had any luck with Wolf HG ammo, wildly inaccurate, except Gold which is brass and made by Privi.

ETA: 42 cents for 9MM is insane IMO, but then again I don't own or shoot a 9MM.  Hell You can get top shelf .45 for that kinda money.

I've had very good results with the Wolf 115 gr. 9mm ammo out of my Ruger BlackHawk 357 using the 9mm conversion cylinder, although it was accurate it's pretty dirty stuff.  I bought a few hundred rds. of the stuff back when it was under $7 per box as SHTF ammo mainly.

I bought .45 ACP bulk. Bullets $32.00 per 1k, Primers $15.60, Powder $10.50 per pound. With the use on the brass. $3.25 per 50 round box. I have enough stuff to load over 5,500 rounds. I just got a .380 auto pistol and a box of federal .380 fmj 50  per box for $15.99 that's $ 0.34 per round. Yep! That's sticker shock.
