Has anyone used the Wolf 223 primers? How do they compare to CCI #41?

I havent seen a difference between the two. Both work well for me.  I do use the magnum Wolfs. I have no experience with the regular small rifle.

This question would be better asked in the Reloading forum (near the bottom under Armory).

I've used them in .30 Carbine and .223 loads, they work just fine.  Never used those CCI primers, though, so I can't compare the two.  The Wolfs work and the price was right, I think I got them for around $19/1000.

Just a couple of  weeks ago, I loaded up 50 Wolf .223 primers, and compared them with 50 CCI 400s, and 50 Rem 7 1/2s with SMK 77s and hand-weighed Varget loads.

Accuracy in my 26" varmint gun for all 3 loads was about equal (at the limits of my abilities, 5 shots in 1/2" to 3/4 " from sandbags at 100 yds).

The Wolf .223s and the CCI 400s chronoed to the same average speed which was about 35 fps more than the Remmys.  The Wolf had the lowest SD and ES.

I have CCI #41 primers and Wolf small rifle magnum, haven't chrono'd the two back to back, but they both work fine and as an added bonus, the Wolf primers are always facing the same way in the package, so less time spent flipping them.

I can't tell the difference between the 2.   Wollf was a bargain when it was going for $20/k while CCI an others where going for $30+/k.  Wolf prices have gone up a bit so thry aren't the super bargain they once were.  Heck at Wideners Wolf and CCI are practically the same price.

I was surprised to see the wolf price increase. At the price they are now, I'll just use Winchester.

FYI - some guys on the brianenos forum have found that the latest batch of SP primers are now nickle and seem to be harder. Many are reporting increased numbers of light strikes.

Ran a comparison of Wolf 556, CCI 400, CCI 450 and CCI 41 primers.

Load consisted of 26gr H335, once fired LC08 brass trimmed to 1.75", Hornady bulk 55gr FMJ and OAL 2.22"

Gun: LaRue Stealth 16"
Chrono: Pro Chrono

The temperature outside was 27deg but the ammo was keeped at 68deg until fired.  The barrel was cooled between batches until I could hold onto it.  The barrel was brought up to temp before the first batch.  All batches were 15 shot each.

The Wolf primers were the easies to seat with the CCI 450 the hardest (they took some force).  The other two were only slightly harder to seat than the Wolf.

The CCI 400 were the flattest after firing.  The Wolf and CCI 450 showed the least flatting,  CCI 41 was in between.

On a side note Wolfs Magnum small pistol primers vs CCI standard small pistol.  The Wolfs produced lower speeds and higher ES and SD in my 9mm.  Listed are just two tests, but Wolf consistently under perform CCI.
