Of those, I have only used 231 and love it. Very consistent, a little sooty though. I only load cast bullets in .45 ACP so that can add to the smoke/soot.

231. I only load cast as well. Usually 200gr SWC over 5.0 gr of 231. Very, very accurate out of my Eclipse. Other 45s like it as well, but was loaded for the 5" Kimber for 50 yard silhouette.

I'd go with Universal or W-231. Other powders work well, but these two are good for the .45 ACP.
W-231 is one of my "never run out of" powders. I can use it in all of my handguns (9x18, 9x19, .38 Spec., .45 ACP). |

Right now I'm using Universal Clays and WSF. The WSF meters poorly. The universal is nice but I will try Power Pistol as soon as I can get some.

I use Titegpoup for over 10 years. Worh great in my 45 1911, 38spl, 9mm, and 32 apc. Great all round powder, for 357 & 44 mag. I use H110. That's IMHO.

Power pistol will give ya more velocity...which you may want with the JHP's.....the 231 is gonna be milder and will go a long ways (Less powder per charge)
I personally like both and they each have there own purpose. |

Got about 4000 rounds left from loading with bullseye, prior loads were 5.7 gr 231 with 200gr RNWC. Nice IPSC load.

I use Tightgroup. I have used WSF and had no metering problems, WST on the other hand is a different story.
I also use Tightgroup for 9mm and 40 S&W. Its good in all of them so I only have to stock one powder for all my loads. 
If only my primers would arrive I could actually load some.

I've really liked Hodgdon Clays (not International or Universal, just plain Clays) for .45. Very clean burning, meters great for me in my Dillon, and is inexpensive to boot.

I'm just getting into reloading .45ACP myself. The Hornady manual suggest that VIHT N340 is the best powder for 230 grain XTP/HP bullets (which is what I'm using), so I recently purchased a couple of pounds of this powder.
Why aren't more folks using this? Is it price, or does it not meter as well, or? Inquiring minds want to know... |

Because of the price. I've been using 5.6gr of WW231 under 200gr LSWC and it makes major in every GI model I've shot them in. Good and accurate. Plus 231's a bunch cheaper than VV powder.

That's what I thought. I figured, since pistol rounds take so much less powder than rifle, that the cost doesn't really bother me, especially when buying in bulk.

I've got to ask why so many are recommending W231. I got 100 rds from a member here in an ammo trade. 5.1 grs of W231 over a Dardas SWC, and that powder is dirty as fuck! It made my Sig nasty! I will never load using that powder as long as I have a choice. My dad's giving me his unused Dillon 550B for my birthday setup for .45 ACP, and I have 3 different Hodgdon powders on their way to start working up loads when I can get some primers in, but I will NEVER use W231 after trying it.

Keymaster, I don't mean to rain on your Hogdon powder parade but my SIG was dirty with 5 grains 231 also and started singing with 5.5 for a 200gr bullet. About 10k rounds later I started experimenting and at 25 k in my pistol I haven't found much better. I say 231 is good for SIG 45's but it has to be hotter than you are shooting it.
I never have found light loads that are more accurate than hot loads offhand in my SIG 220 with factory recoil spring. I may suck at offhand but my theory is fast bullets require less follow through for accuracy. |

Of the powders you listed I've only used 231. Got good accuracy, but it was a bit dirty.
I switched to Unique awhile ago and haven't looked back. |

Not on OP list ..but i love the stuff! Meters well, pushes 200gr. SWC accurate as hell in my Kimber... |
