Okay guys have been reading your forum for a long time now. I just got my rcbs rock chucker kit, Lyman case trimmer, tumbler and other equipment. I just snagged 4,000 CCI 400 SR primers, 4,000 rounds of brass and 6 cans of H4895 and IMR 4895 Powder. So I am just about ready. I chose the 4895  based on the Hodgdon load chart for loading 40 Grain up to 90 grain bullets. So now I need to get the bullets  take my time and start loading.  I am not looking for superb accuracy  just plinking with my son and his friends. So if I want to throw bullets at paper and other items for them to shoot, what grain bullets do I need to get.  I ordered a stag 5.56 H2 upper from pete, It is a 1/9 twist. I have learned alot from you folks and I am taking my time loding and learning as I go. I appreciate the help and any comments

55gr fmj, try the hornadys, or you could get some surplus stuff.  Not the most accurate bullet but you can usually find 1000 for around $79.

look on GB  you can usually find 55gr FMJBT by the 1000.  Don't, however, make the mistake I did and get ones that have been "pulled" down with claims of no marks.  Trust me....

Start with 55 gr bullets. FMJBT or soft point. I recommend Hornaday's.

When you are ready for a powder that measures easy, try Tac, BLC2, AA-2230, H-335 or W-748. All ball powders.

Don't be afraid of pulled bullets, they shoot fine and save some money.

55gr and a .223 Case Gage

I would respectfully suggest that you be very careful with those powders as a new loader.  People can get confused as the numbers are way too similar.

Keep good notes and double check everything.

Try H335 or TAC

You're going to need more powder.

Yes guys, I am going slow and using a single stage press and watching what powders I am using. Have looked all over the place for a case guage with no luck. Have 16 pounds of powder also coming from powder valley. so that will keep me busy for a while,  lol.  Thanks guys.
