Im looking for a reduced load for 30-06 using a 150gr jacketed bullet -  target velocity is around 2400 fps.

Will be used in an 8lb hunting rifle.

any ideas on suitable powders?  I know 4895 is a good one but most of the popular powders are out of stock.
How about a slow burning powder that will still have good loading density like 4831 or AA 3100?

I do have some IMR 3031, 2400 and Varget available.

Thanks in advance.

IMR 3031 at about 35 grains will be fine.  Being single based, you need not worry about ignition.

It should generate enough pressure to assure full ignition.  Do not use slower powders as they might not fully ignite.  I have had good luck with 3031 at 30 grains with a 150 grain bullet in .308 Win.

IMRs can be loaded as if the case is a lower capacity, like .30-30 in a .308.

Thanks for the info!

Tried loads from 34.0 - 42.0 in 2 gr increments.

GREAT RESULTS!

With loads of 38.0(2300fps) and 40.0 (2400fps) I got (2) 3-shot groups of .4 inches at 100 meters
with a reduction of FRE of 30% or more.  Other loads were under 1 inch with room to spare.
Extreme spreads were only in the 40 - 50fps.  Now to find more IMR-3031.

The new Browning X-bolt is extremely accurate with these loads.  I think the little lady will be right pleased with
her purchase.

Thanks again!

The choice of rifle was made by her.  Her $$$, her rifle.  Took her to the gun shop and had her handle everything there to see what she liked.
Of course she pics the Browning.  If she is happy with it, then she will shoot it and we now have another shooter in our ranks.
It doesnt hurt that it out shoots most of what I have either.  I will happily load for whatever she wants to shoot.  I will try the 4895 loads as soon as I get some powder.

Thanks again,
