you'll find that Varget is well loved with 5.56 and 7.62 shooters here...

That'll work fine. You might like Varget so well you never try anything else. That would be bad, though, you'd miss out on some of the fun.

AeroE is right.
All I have used is Varget. I have to switch because I am getting frustrated trying to find anywhere that has the 8# containers in stock. Now I get to play with RE-15. |

I love varget.. I even use it with my 30-30.. It's the best measuring powder I have used and I like the "bulk" of it, easy to prevent double charging, etc.

I would not agree about being the best measuring powder, but so far it is my best propellant for accuracy in my 223 and 308. I have not had good results with it in my 243, but heck 2 out of 3 aint bad.

Dude, you need to get out some Varget, for being a short-cut extruded powder, generally meters like a$$. Most other short-cut extruded powders meter more accurately and consistently, and even they don't hold a candle to spherical (ball) powders when it comes to metering. |

In my RCBS uni-flow, Varget meters great. I have used it for both .223 and .308 with great results.

I did it bassackwards... I tried everything else and now all I use is Varget

It's great for heavy .223 and .308! I only use different powder in my FAL. It seems to prefer 4895 for it's ~150gr loads and that also seems to result in less brass stretching from the FAL. But Varget is great stuff for both calibers for a wide variety of loads.

Depends on what you compare it against. I agree, Varget meters well enough, even out of a Dillon APM, to shoot cleans on NRA HP SR & SR3 targets, even on the dinky MR31. But having thrown a lot of charges into a pan prior to weighing out my long range loads... I still say Varget meters like a$$ compared to other powders like RE15, N140, etc. Better than 4064... most of the time. |

Is there anything that crunches more than 4064? If there is I haven't found it. That said my .308 loaded with 4064 and palma bullets is a happy thing.

It meters OK in my Lee PPM. The charges can be +/- .1 so if I am trying to be perfect I set it to throw light and trickle the last bit.
Can't wait to upgrade to a RCBS Chargemaster and not worry about trickling by hand. |
