A small dent is ok, but those looked gouged, I'd scrap them. About 50,000 PSI going off inches from your eyes and face, it ain't worth the chance. Like Wolfman223 said, maybe fix the gun, something is causing a violent ejection.

Way too creased/dented for me. The dents look like it actually cut into/displaced the brass on some of them. Toss em.
btw, there is a reloading section on the forums as well. |

I got a Russian Vepr Super in .308 that kicks the shit out of the case like that plus tosses it about 30 plus feet on being ejected.I use SA berdan surplus in it or other once fire and toss rounds like Silver Bear.They might iron out but would take a max primer flattening load to do it.He might try to come up with a way to reduce that case mark,maybe bigger hole in the gas port ect.

Mid-case dents, even those, are not an issue. The first 1/4 of the case is most critical.

Dent is from the brass deflector.
The funny bump that has a brass smear on it in front of the forward assist. Glue some black Velcro on it to cushion the brass and prevent dents. |

+1 Velcro (r) Sticky Back (TM) in your friendly WalMart Sewing/Notions section. 20 coin set, 5/8 in. dia., black. I used the loop side. Some may prefer the hook side. |

After having a case head failure last week, I figure if you gotta ask if the case is good to reload, the prudent answer is to dump them. Just one man's opinion. PS. My face has finally healed up...nasty gas burns on my brow... I was kinda gun shy...kept on having flashbacks of the explosion but went to the range today and got right back on the horse. good luck docgary |

My AK brass looks like that, I reload 'em, no problems so far.
But the bottom case in the first pic, looks like a perforation in the case neck, that black line, If you can see daylight thru it toss it. If it's just carbon, then it should be ok |

Did you even bother to look at the brass in the pics?  I want to know what part of the brass deflector has a sharp edge on it that would gouge the brass(in two places on most of those cases) like that. Looks more like something in chambering and extraction to me. |

Looks like some would shoot it and some wouldn'thinking.gif I guess since I'm just starting to get into reloading, the smart thing to do would be to start with good (not questionable) components and focus on technique. Thanks for the input fellas. |

Dents do not make a case "questionable". All automatic firearms dent cases. Cases dent from all kinds of impact. There is nothing wrong with them.
I'd beware of a pristine looking case that has been improperly reloaded ten times and is about to let go at the casehead. |

I suspect they are hitting the edge of the ejection port in front of the case deflector. |

I find it interesting that 3 of the 4 (the bottom 3) show a distinctive 2nd ding in them in very close proximity to the 1st. Was your buddy's rifle having any sort of ejection issues when he was firing it? |

Were you wearing shooting glasses? Mine saved my eyes two years ago when I was hit by a full size unbroken clay target falling out of a chandelle. I've been hit by bullet jackets in the 600 yard pit more than one time, and I've shot a few revolvers that spit lead. |

I've reloaded cases like that before, didn't have any problems at all.
My pistol grip converted Saiga in .223 leaves a ding just like that when fired. Caveat; I am a bit more ballsy and prone to risk than most folk so take my advice accordingly |

You might want to call the Mfr, and arrange to send them the pix, along with a detailed description of the issues the rifle was having. Maybe this is something they hava developed a fix for, maybe they will want the rifle back to work on it. As for the dings, if metal has been displaced or removed from the case, then I'd be cautious about reloading them. OTOH, if it's a simple crease with no metal removed/displaced, than it's probably OK to reload them. |

As has already been stated, if it is more than 1/4 the way up the case body, it is good to go.
I don't know about the rifle, but the brass is OK. Put it through a resizing die and see what it looks like. My Tokarev makes those marks on 7.62x54R brass, and I've reloaded that brass a few times without case failures due to those marks. |

Yep, I ALWAYS wear shooting glasses...( I'm blind without them! )Probably would have given me a nice superficial eye burn requiring eye patches on both without the glasses. What a wonderful way to bring in shooting season!
Horse ride was fine, LOL... The first few shots I grimaced and closed my eyes... After that, working for that 5 shot group under .4xx! Thanks for your concerns docgary |

Everybody's experience is different.
I had the misfortune to fire 3 rounds of Izzy milsurp 7.62 NATO that is now known far and wide as hazardous to shoot. Fortunately I was using the ammo in a good quality Steyr-made Mauser that was sold to Chile as the Modelo 1912. I got a few mild puffs of hot air in my face and and some hard extrtactions. Then I inspected the cases. FYI, the main, primary vent is way up forward, and vented off to the side away from the shooter. Must have been a fair amount of exhaust gasses left over to give me a little puff of hot stuff. Split wide open from the primer pocket to mid-length up the side of the case. Just about as catastrophic a case failure as you are likely to see. No biggie in a good rifle. Point is, it doesn't pay to push your luck too much. |
